4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 star old school doom metal album, May 18, 2009
This review is from: Sahg 2 (Audio CD)
Sahg II is (obviously) the second album from Norwegian doom merchants Sahg. I took a chance on this album having never heard the band's debut, and was pleasantly surprised by Sahg's decidedly old school sound.

Obviously, since Sahg is a doom band, Black Sabbath is the band's primary influence. But it's the later, more experimental Sabbath I hear, not the heavy plodding early Sabbath. Sahg also uses a fair amount of speed and groove, bringing to mind Atomic Rooster and to some extent even Led Zeppelin. It's a very rocking, very memorable style of doom rock (or is it metal? I'm torn between the two.)

From the chugging, "Symptom of the Universe" style "Echoes Ring Forever" to the speedy "Pyromancer", Sahg II is a first class tribute to the old school hard rock and doom metal sound. As long as you don't mind some speed and melody, most doom metal and/or stoner rock fans should totally get into what Sahg is all about.

Whats not to like about a band that leaves it's own genre, and creates an epic in another genre, based on their love of Black Sabbath, and all that is heavy Sahg deliver a dose of doom and gloom 70's style. I'll be looking for the follow up!

5.0 out of 5 stars great doom indeed, May 4, 2008

I have read reviews about this saying this was a bad doom album that sounded like Ozzy doing bad Black Sabbath, okay so I dont get it is there something wrong with sounding like that, Ozzy has not made a good album since his first 3 solo albums, Blizzard of Oz Diary of a Madman and Bark at The Moon this sounds like a laid back Sabbath album from 1975 or so it fits in with any of the Sabbath albums like 1973 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or 1975 Sabotage which is arguably their finest moment I dont get bad reviews this album RULES
