Too Much Shock Factor,
By Grace Ensz (MARION, IN, US) - See all my reviews

Recently I began my search for a daily devotional for my husband and me to use which focused on our marriage relationship. I read the reviews of all the ones available for kindle and decided on this one. The price was right for an experiment and the reviews were astounding. Honestly, however, my husband and I have not enjoyed this devotional one bit. The He Said writer, Eddie Jones, enjoys the shock factor way too much. His devotionals are more distracting than helpful. For a Christian writer to admit that he still sleeps with women in his head, leaves one speechless. I find the material in each devotional very disjointed. Since the writers are not married to one another their writing lacks coherency. The devotionals don't elaborate very well on the verses but are loosely connected and the building block quotes don't connect at all. I was hoping that the devotionals would naturally lead to some discussion but after we read them we really have to dig to find something worthy of discussing. I don't recommend this devotional at all. After many attempts to keep on reading this devotional we finally had to stop since the material was just too outrageous.

A Fun Devotional,

This review is from: He Said, She Said: A Devotional Guide to Cultivating a Life of Passion: How Newlyweds, Couples and Singles Can Draw Closer to God and Their Mate Through Daily Devotions (Paperback)
He Said, She Said is an awesome Devotional that allows for both male and female perspectives. In each devotion, not only do you hear both perspectives but there is a prayer and a "building block of Faith" which is a quote that is encouraging on the topic shared. The devotional topics are:
Loving One Another Loving Your Kids Loving Your Work Loving Your Church He Said, She Said is wonderful in that, it brings up topics that will allow for great discussions and I LOVE the humor the Authors share!! Not only is this book excellent for your own marriage but it would be an awesome tool if you mentor couples who need some guidance or even with those who are newly engaged! Learning to Communicate is sooo very important and sometimes people just need someone to help open a door !! This book is definitely one that will do just that! Thanks CFBA for providing a complimentary E-book in exchange for my honest opinion! Happy Reading!

Its official! He Said, She Said is the first couples' devotional book that I like! I really should let my husband read it to see what he thinks, haha, but I can tell you this - we have about 5 books of the same genre sitting on our bookshelf and they're excellent dust collectors. There's nothing specifically wrong with them, but we tried reading them together and they didn't seem that helpful for us. Those devotionals are written by authors that you would probably recognize and they're all very similar.
Perhaps its He Said, She Said's uniqueness that sets it a part. The layout of this book is unusual (one devotional is written by him, the next is written by her - thus the title of the book). The authors are painfully honest about their marriages (and you know, most of us need painful honesty - it gives us the assurance that our struggles are not unique). Their thoughts and insights into marriage, children and the church are moving, witty and funny. And ultimately, they based their conclusions were on the one powerful truth - to make it and succeed we need God. It's really all about Him! If our relationship is right with Him, He gives us wisdom for all of the other areas of our life. The book isn't without its minor flaws - there are a decent number of typos - which usually aggravates me, but the style of the book appealed to me so much that this seemed minor. Also, the introduction written by Eddie Jones contains some confusing dialogue but the rest of his writing is great. Perhaps it is a matter of style, but I think I've found a couples' devotional that could make a big difference in our marriage. Of course, I should probably ask my husband, lol... ;D

Read Together with Your Significant Other or On Your Own,
By Jennifer (Fairfax, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: He Said, She Said: A Devotional Guide to Cultivating a Life of Passion: How Newlyweds, Couples and Singles Can Draw Closer to God and Their Mate Through Daily Devotions (Paperback)
He Said, She Said [Lighthouse Publishing (February 14, 2011)] by Eddie Jones and Cindy Sproles is a devotional for couples, an aide to draw them closer to God and to one another. And, it's wonderful! The writing is heartfelt and honest, and at times funny; the topics relevant; and the his and her discussions thought-provoking. Starting with the first line of the very first He Said, "Love is a four-letter word and that word is 'work,'" the wisdom contained within these pages is something that every Christian couple, whether dating, recently married, or celebrating their silver wedding anniversary should read. It is a reminder of what a marriage is, or should be, once the giddiness, the infatuation, and the lust diminish and the daily-grind takes over. Each devotion of "story" consists of a passage of scripture, a well-constructed real-life application, a prayer, and a "Building Blocks of Faith:" a witty quote that will leave you with a smile and something to think about throughout the day. There is no right or wrong way to use He Said, She Said. The authors don't lay out a recipe for devotion or study. Instead, they present the reader, or readers, with 54 stories, each one capable of standing on its own as a devotion for male or female, although each is also labeled as "He Said" or "She Said" to make clear the writer's perspective. Read He Said, She Said together with your significant other, or on your own. Either way, it's wisdom is sure to help you in your relationships, all of your relationships, whether with your spouse, your children, or your parents. I received this book from the author (through the CFBA) free for the purpose of reviewing it. I received no other compensation for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are my honest opinions. Your experience may vary.

Eddie right on with take on men/women, and wandering eyes,
As always, Eddie gets to the heart of the "wandering eyes" issue in America today. With the vast majority of Christian men struggling with pornography addictions, it's time we take the whitewash off it and face the reality of what it does to our men, our women, and our relationships. It's not a victimless crime! I have struggled with this thorn in the flesh all my life, and though I fight it with everything I've got, my struggles have scarred any chance at true intimacy with my wife. Eddie nails this struggle. Bravo!

Frankly Honest,
"The greatest characteristic a Christian can exhibit is the completely unveiled openness before God, which allows that person's life to become a mirror for others." - Oswald Chambers.I for one enjoy the frankness of these devotions. They cause me to "reflect" upon my own life and ask, "How am I doing?"Abaco Gold: The Maravilla Connection

Ok, blown away with this man....if you lust for someone, you've already committed adultery in your heart...so for him to admit he's 'slept with lots of women in his head' before AND AFTER he was married....well...then the secret box. that's hidden from his wife filled with love notes and mementos from other women, that's just wrong. The whole discussion of how the mother ship is crying in the bedroom, but don't worry, she'll come out and cook. His, well both of their discussions on sex was nothing like my 19 yr marriage. It seems to be looked at by both as an obligation instead of an act of love you should look.forward to.
Wouldn't do for.me to be married to this guy. I didn't feel that either has a happy marriage. I'll Be deleting this book.now...

Along with scripture references, they both tackle some of the challenging things coming between all our relationships today, money, peer pressure, time challenges, emotional outbursts, homework, grades, work, cooking, and illness. Almost every situation is dealt with in a couple of pages to show you that you are not alone in your circumstance. This is a must have in any home with any one. I received this book, He Said, She Said, by Eddie Jones and Cindy Sproles, compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and LOVED it!
