I gotta say jhene aiko is a breath of fresh air in the r&b game and i'm excited to hear her debut album. This girl keeps it real with lyrics that encompass real life experiences the sail out ep showcases a blossoming young r&b star in the making. I'm glad to see that real female r&b is starting to comeback and I applaud you Jhene Aiko this ep delivers.

She's an amazing artist, she's so underrated! Her music just takes me to another place! Her beautiful/haunting vocals relax me and set my mind free, almost putting me into a trance! She keeps it real and talks about real dark personal life experiences that people can relate to, and that's what I like about her music unlike most of today's music where all they talk about is the SAME ISH over and over and over again! I'll take her music over mainstream any day!

Jhene Aiko answers Frank Ocean's call for trance R&B music and lays some sweet, ethereal vocals over tight hip-hop beats throughout 'Sail Out'. The album, with seven tracks, is at the perfect duration between an EP and a full-length release - not too long and not too short. The on-fire and ever reliable Kendrick Lamar stops by and drops a few verses on "Stay Ready" while Childish Gambino provides his talents on "Bed Peace" which has already wet everyone's appetite. "Sail Out" is definitely a nice, mellow album that even non-hip-hop fans can appreciate - especially those who are tired of club-bangers and overdone party music. It's cool seeing her go from guest artist to solo artist having other well-respected musicians on her debut.

I live for this sort of blessed discovery. Jhene is fascinating and enthralling. With remnants of Frank Ocean, I hear this as one of the finest of the year. From the first single, "3:16 a.m." to "The Worst" featuring a thought provoking flow by Kendrick Lamar. Jhene is said to be influenced by John & Yoko Lennon's "Bed Protest", thus we have "Bed Peace". The song that has me captivated me most is "Stay Ready". I welcome challenging music of this nature. By the break, I am floating on the chord changes. There are sprinkles of what The Robert Glasper Experience offers. It is great to see "Sail Out" topping iTunes R&B Album chart and I now understand why. It has stayed in the Top 5 since its release this summer........it is really a great blend of hip hop and R&B despite of it being on Def Jam. Of course, Def Jam today has only tangible relations to its origins as street hip hop from Hollis, Queens. It belongs on the overall chart, but, it seems unrealistic to place it in any confining genre. Regardless this is a celebratory experience that I welcome with glee for its innovation and thinking of it beyond boundaries. I have since invested in another "Unreleased" CD by Jhene and there is a beautiful song "For My Brother" dedicated to her brother who transitioned from cancer a couple of years ago.
Apparently Jhene is considered in some circles as part of "hipster R&B" which sounds like a modern day version of neo-soul. With so many states finally passing medicinal mari laws. Right at the onset, she celebrates the wonders of a a vapor smoking machine. "Can I hit again, can I hit again"......, "Sail Out" could be the campaign or theme songs capturing all the positives that altering your perception/environment can be an enthralling experience. Breaking up the mood is an uptempo, Motown/Pop Soul of "Let it Go" for you to feel another side of her creativity.
The production is absolutely captivating and I found myself floating into another dimension of emotions and emotive expression.
There is nothing negative I could say about this album except it should be a full length album. Yet it will undoubtedly inspire the smart ones to seek out her other releases via Mixtapes and unreleased compilations.

Deep. Honest. Raw Emotions. Pain. Smooth. Sultry. Real. Jhene beautifully uses several metaphors throughout the CD. In essence, she symbolizes a piece of everyone's heartbreak, everyone's truth.♥ Proves that we are never alone in rejection or depression. The simplicity of complex emotions spilled out with an angelic voice. Her music depicts many life lessons. Comfort INN Ending is a masterpiece.
