4.0 out of 5 stars handy in a race, but not really waterproof
I have been looking for a quick 'cheat sheet' to use during some of our longer races. This is a very nice presentation, especially the last section where the author addresses quick things to try when you have problems (oh yea! the backstay!). 3.0 out of 5 stars Quick guide to sail trim
This is a quick quide to sail trim that may be helpful to sailiors that would like to get more speed out of their boat.

It unfolds like a big road map, and is well organized (though there is a bit on rig tuning that is useful before, but not during the race).
The one drawback, is that though well laminated, I would call it weatherproof, not waterproof. it really hasn't held up as well as I'd like after being dropped into water on the cockpit floor.
Take care of it, and it will be good to you and your race.
Anything that gets your crew thinking about trim and speed is a good thing.

It is nice to have an on board guide to help learn sail trimming and be able to compare results with inputs. The guide is nicely sized and well organized.

Easily read by the crew on the way to the race. Items not understood offer a chance to discuss the finer points of sailing.

This is OK. Best thing about it was the price and the fact it is laminated and I can keep it on the boat handy. The NorthU stuff is highly recommended and that was the big reason I ordered it. I was looking for something my moderate experience crew could refer to while racing to trim the sails so I could spend more time on tactics. There is a lot of front matter with only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the foldout talking about sail trim - which is a BFD. I did see a similar one at West Marine which was a little more detailed and IMHO a lot better. For the $4.00 I got it for it was OK.

I like this little guide. It's very concise. We're putting it on the boat to use on Wednesday night Beer Can Races, when our club has an open door and anyone can come on the boats, regardless of experience.

I'd buy it again - and may, since we may need another on a friends boat.
