A good overall review but not completely up to date
This 70 minute video covers basic chart use, dead reckoning, navigation rules, and the use of radar. Because the video is over 10 years old (1988) the section on electronic navigation is out of date (Loran and radio beacons were presented), GPS was briefly discussed. This video provides an easy way for the bigginer to learn the basics of coastal navigation but...

Navigational info
The videotape I received was of poor quality (sound mostly). Although much of the dead reckoning navigation was very helpful, I found they went too fast in some areas, too slow in others. The delivery was very matter of fact. A more interesting delivery would have helped. I found sailing books more informative like Your First Sailboat : How to Find and Sail the Right...

This 70 minute video covers basic chart use, dead reckoning, navigation rules, and the use of radar. Because the video is over 10 years old (1988) the section on electronic navigation is out of date (Loran and radio beacons were presented), GPS was briefly discussed. This video provides an easy way for the bigginer to learn the basics of coastal navigation but would likely be over simplified for the intermediate sailor. I recommed this video for bigginers only or for review, no advanced topics are presented here.

The delivery was very matter of fact. A more interesting delivery would have helped. I found sailing books more informative like Your First Sailboat : How to Find and Sail the Right Boat for You. That is at least a great place to start for beginners.
