This is a fantastic tale - no question about that. Please note however that this version does not include any of the original illustrations, which are very helpful when in comes to maps of the voyage. I wound up purchasing the eNotated version and much prefer it to this one.

Great story of self reliance. Should be required reading for teen agers. I read it years ago in paper. I left this a FOUR because the transcription is so freaking horrible. Please, continue to give us the old classics but take the time to proof read them a little, ok?

Classic among sailing books. Mr Slocum was First to sail around the world and the book is also a interesting view to his own time when steam replaced sails. I recommend highly

What bravery with few tools except brains and faith. All should read what one can do in our time of whine and dependency.

Not a bad story overall. Slocum's style is witty and entertaining. The stories are great. It's a little dry in some places but I think that's probably due to the story being 120 years old. A good read, and almost required, if you are interested in sailing, long voyages, naval history and the like.

A captivating account of courage and ingenuity. A great blue water sailor who could even swim. 'These are my four more words.'

Always a great read. Loaned my hard copy out a few years ago never to be seen again. Nothing to do but replace it. Slocum's account of his journey gives the reader a vivid insight into what it must have been like to set out on a circumnavigation nearly 120 years ago without any modern support facilities.

I have always wanted to read this book having so often dreamt of doing some serious long distance sailing myself - but never having had the courage to put my dreams into practice. Joshua Slocum's story is that of a truly amazing man who is resourceful, has incredible stamina, is truly courageous under the most adverse weather conditions and to cap it all obviously had a wonderful manner about him that encouraged so many people around the world to fete him and assist him in so many ways at his many ports of call.
My only criticism of reading the book on our Kindle is that that device does not allow images such as line plans of the "Spray" to be magnified along with the text. A small complaint and not one that impaired my enjoyment of the book and the racing of my imagination as I followed Mr Slocum across the oceans.
