A Summer Summed Up in One Song.,
This review is from: Sailing (MP3 Download)
I was 15 in the summer of 1980. I was living on Cape Cod. Imagine a summer sun glistening off Nantucket Sound. I'm riding my green 1967 Schwinn 10 Speed bike down Great Western Road. A song comes on the radio by this guy who just came on the scene. Album 6 in my Columbia Record and Tape Club order. Christopher Cross. The songwriting is pure summer. The music and the sun glisten. The production sparkles. My how far we've come in 30 years. The top 40 is dead. This was all over it. #1. And deservedly so. The canvas can do miracles. Never never land? Lewis Bay. The air wafting off the ocean colliding with a 15 year old looking for girls, fishing, friends, and a place to fit in. Exploring all the senses and then some. Cross nails the sentiment. Soon I will be free. The amazing thing is how the melody captures the moment. It's soft rock, but it paints a bold picture. The wind calls for serenity. I lived this song and so many others in 1980. This music is dead, it's gone. Download as much of it as you can. And be transformed. Life doesn't get much better than cruising the beach roads with my Schwinn while clutching my Radio Shack AM/FM...

Sailing To Christopher,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)

While it is hard to believe that so many people have listed Christopher Cross as a one-album wonder. But, his music has been very melodic and intmate, that it is worth taking a listen too each and every time. His classic 1979 standard Sailing is just as melodic and souldully deep as it was when it has came out over 30 years ago. While he was never a part of the MTV era, his music is still just a great escape to, and honestly still holds up better to all the crap music that has came out over the past several years. If you've loved Christopher's opus, it is worth downloading all over again. While his latest Dr. Faith isn't bad, truthfully Sailing is the one you'll always keep coming back to.Song: A-
