5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie for ALL ages.
I watched Sailor Moon S, the movie and I think it's a beautiful expression of how strong love and friendship can really be. The plot is quite understandable, even to those that are young, and I really don't agree with previous reviews that say that this movie isn't suitable for little kids... that's rediculous... the so called "nudity" is very very obscure...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just ice will prevail
One of the usual fan complaints about Sailor Moon's dubbed counterpart is how much of the dramatic tension winds up being filtered out of the story. Now I for one belief that children are quite capable of handling a few more dark themes than they're given credit for and it's really the parents who find a shot of Sailors Venus and Uranus getting slammed into an iceberg...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie for ALL ages., November 29, 1999
I watched Sailor Moon S, the movie and I think it's a beautiful expression of how strong love and friendship can really be. The plot is quite understandable, even to those that are young, and I really don't agree with previous reviews that say that this movie isn't suitable for little kids... that's rediculous... the so called "nudity" is very very obscure and a small child wouldn't even think of it... I sincerely do not know why some people make such a bid deal over nothing. Eitherway, Luna's little romantic escapade is sad at times, but it will warm your hearts... and of course, who could forget Haruka, Michiru and Setsuna, the Outer Soldiers... they're the best and they unintentionally steal the show at every appearance. This is one movie worth buying for all you Otakus out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some bad parts, but is it worth buying? Yes, in a nutshell, May 28, 2000
By A Customer
I have the dubbed and the sub, and just to make things easy, I'll seperate the bad, the good, and the treats into three parts:

The BAD: Uranus's attack phrase was so garbled that there's no possible way you can hear it for the first time. Neptune was OK, but as previous viewers say, it should have been a bit more feminine. And yes, the voice of Pluto in the DiC series should have been in the movie, but out of all the phrases of the three, she's the only one who yells it out clear. Oh well, let's pray the dub of Super S turns out better. And did anyone else get tempted into calling "Sailor Mini Moon"/ Rini "Mini Me" from Austin Powers? And did anyone else want to fast-forward the part when Sailor Moon gets preachy about the significance of life? Another thing to beware is that there's no background music during the battle scenes in order to make the final showdown more dramatic(Like "The Power Of Love" in the R-movie). As a final note, I don't know what's worse: the fact that the Snow Dancers aren't that scary or the fact that they holler and "yi-yi-yi-yi" like Xena on the WB network.

The GOOD: We actually get a first peek on the dub's version of Rini's transformation and Sailor Moon's heart scepter attack before the use of the Holy Grail("Moon Spiral Heart Attack") and after("Rainbow Moon Heartache Reform"). At least Pioneer knows what to leave in. Plus, it's nice to see the transformations and the attacks of the Outer Sailor Scouts. As a final touch, you get to see what Luna looks like when she turns into a human being.=)

The TREATS: Advantages to buying the movie? It teaches the lesson that if you love someone enough, you know when to let them go. And you'll probably feel sorry or relate for Luna when she realizes she can't love the astronomer because she's a cat and not a human being, and you'll realize how precious love is when you see Artemis support Luna even though she ignores him, and how he becomes crushed when she doesn't realize that he loves he for the way she is. Moral: if not too preachy, it's that love is unconditional, and once we lose it, we realize how much of it we have and need in our life. Great thing to teach for parents in case they have little kids who don't understand this. Oh yeah, and there's one hilarious scene when a Snow Dancer is chasing Serena and Rini, and they do the "Look-Out-Behind-You!" trick and when the dancer turns away to see what they're pointing at, both the girls escape to transform.(I was cracking up seeing on how funny this part was).

So, is it worth it to buy the dub? I'd say yes because the bad parts are tolerable, and it will make you want to watch it over again, and this is the only movie that shows the Holy Grail and the Outer Sailor Scouts' transformations. Plus, you'll probably have a few tear-jerkers when you see Luna's predicament; that's good for you emotional people out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sailor Moon, January 14, 2005
Such a cute and touching tale. Luna falls head over heals in love...not for Artemis (sorry man) but for a scientist. Guess she likes the intellectual types...especially when they save her life. Although love is in bloom in december, the scouts have a new problem and enemy on their hands. an evil ice queen is trying to freeze over the entire earth and add it to her collection of frozen planets...immediatly the scouts step up to meet the threat...but the only way to defeat her is my the legendary silver crystal power of love and friendship....will sailor moon use the silver crystal and forfeit her life to save the planet? Not if the scouts can help it!

Okay, thats a brief summary of the basic plot...but there is so muchmore to say about it, but sadly that would take up an entire page...not to mention i dont want to give away what will happen or what comes of Luna's new love. But here are some tasty tid-bits...THIS IS THE ONLY ANIMATED SAILOR MOON WHERE YOU WILL SEE LUNA IN HER HUMAN FORM...thats right...Luna goes homo-sapien and it gets better...not only are the original scouts in this movie...but so are sailor neptune, uranus, and pluto! The outer senshi fight along side our favorite sailors! Not too mention this plot is so enticing it literally sucks you in full force with suspense and action...making you sit on the edge of your seat wondering..."will luna get with her new fling....will artemis be able to steal her back...and will the scouts succeed in their endeavors?"

Here are some feature of the disk you may like to know
-Bi-lingual English and Japanese
-English subtitles
-Art galleries
-Character Profiles
-Uncut
-And more!

Running time is approx. 60 minutes with a 13+ rating, mostly due to violent fighting in the last battel scene, and seeing Luna a bit nude when she turns into a human. One note on the last battel scene, i believe it to be one of the best battle scenes ever made in sailor moon...it gets viloent and downright mean as it should...so of your into good battles....this is one of the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very entertaining movie..., January 16, 2000
By
joe shmo (Milford, PA United States) - See all my reviews
Sailor Moon is a great series, although the English dub does take a little bit away from it. This movie makes up for it. This story takes place after all the American episodes, and includes the Outer Senshi, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. They're reason enough to buy it.

As for the plot, it's fun, but not the greatest. A comet is coming towards Earth, carrying an evil Ice Princess who wants to take over Earth. Why? We never find out. But she's a cool villan anyhow. A young astronomer sees her comet... but no one believes him! Except Luna. The movie is basically about Luna's love for the man, Kakeru, and her wish to be human. If you like Luna, this movie is for you.

Overall, it's a really good movie. The art and music are of high quality, and the fight scenes are incredible! Plus there's the humor, which is even better in the Japanese version. You'll love it. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such an enchanting romance, November 26, 1999
By A Customer
This was an excellent movie. I've gotta say I like the R movie better, but if you don't mind some drama and love, this movie is worth the money! It is definitely a fantastic romance movie, with deep, touching moments. It may get a bit sappy at times, but it's still great. And I was so glad Sailor Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus were in it! Their transformations look incredible! The scene where Luna transforms into a human is very revealing, but she looks really pretty as a girl. Just one thing. Why did Tuxedo Mask have to make such a STUPID showing! I mean it's stupid! Watch to find out! One more thing. The song they play during the credits, Moonlight Destiny (Moonlight Densetsu) is one of the most gorgeous love songs I've ever heard. I mean it's beautiful! Watch this movie now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon and the Senshi strike again...fantastically..., June 5, 2000
By
Joshua Powell (Tampa, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
I enjoyed the "R" Movie very much, and when I watched the "S" dub (which I just finished watching two seconds ago) I was rather impressed. The "S" movie is my favorite, and I enjoyed the english version very much. I had read several online reviews about it, and all of its put downs. First of all, the naming of Chibi-Moon changing to Mini-Moon is not that big of a deal. It's really not! It was quite entertaining when she said it. But, the only big thing I had a problem with was the voices of the outer senshi (scouts). Haruka's (Uranus) voice was okay, but Michiru's (Neptune) was far too deep. And Pluto's was a little odd, because I was looking forward to the voice that was presented in the North American TV show, when Pluto first appeared in the "R" Series. And the thing I found strange was, was that all three voices sounded the same. It appeared as if one person did all three voices. I suggest that for the dubbing of the Series and the Super S movie that they try to get the original North American Pluto back and change the voice of Neptune to sound more refined and sophisticated (and a bit higher) as she appears in the Anime (I own the S, SuperS, and Sailor Stars Japanese epsiodes). But the movie itself is translated very closely, and I found most of the dialogue similar to the original Japanese dialogue. I couldn't see anything that was edited (besides the original transformations, as they always have been and Luna's transformation) but I'm sure there was. I liked Snow Kaguya's voice, and Himeko's. Kakeru seemed a bit off, but believable. There was (at points) an overwhelming lack of sincerity in the voices. If you hear the Japanese version, they are very sincere and emotional. Some parts of it seemed a bit rushed on speech, like Tuxedo's Speech on the sled, but it's very excellent and I am looking very forward to the Super S movie and the release of the dubbed Super series that Optimum is currently producing (it's listed on their web site). Good luck to future productions and to Pionner and Opitimum, kudos and thanks for even considering dubbing the movies! We should all appreciate it. It's a great buy, and a must for Sailor Moon Fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Sailor Moon, need I say more?, August 23, 1999
By A Customer
Hey, I like anything Sailor Moon and am not very much into rate one over the other because you hate one particular character or your fave didn't get as much action as the other characters in this movie versus the others, but I do know for a fact that S was worked on with Takeuchi-sensei, hence tons of new attacks and better animation than the series.

Let's look at the virtues of the video alone. Can it be watched without knowing the series? Yes. Is the plot good. Yes, in fact it's great. A bit of action, a bit of romance and and whole lot of fun. The mutilayered plots were really neat. You had three going through out the movie (average on most accounts) the original seiyuu and not some others (unlike us in cheap America where we dump voice actors and don't pay them if we don't feel like it) and as an added bonus a really nice screen for the credits to go on and sweet too. (the slight romantic touch)

And since Takeuchi-sensei worked so hard with Toei for once plus the manga, plus merchandising AND doing plot summaries for the series, ya gotta love her even more and slap out the dough to buy it. Hey, everyone that's a dedicated moonie (ME! ME!) and has read Hitoshi Doi's summaries (I know that most of you are doing it from his summaries like I am, we should be ashamed of ourselves (^_^);;) Plus it's sorta offical and that means no more fan dubs to eat at your conscience (not that some of us have them) to say your against the law. Hey I'm buying all six versions so nya-nya [tongue stuck out] despite the money drain and all the series too. So stop saying oh, but it's all una movie and oh I thought so and so was supposed to get more air time and so on. Look at it this way (for those of you who can remember still) If you weren't a fanatical moonie and you had no idea what Sailor Moon was, would you enjoy it?

Anyway, I do have a discriminating eye. and I'm going to say Sailor Moon S movie has an excellent plot (it's from a manga act, so what do you expect me to say as a great fan of Takeuchi-sensei), great animation (from what I've seen as snippets on the net) and definately worth the buy whatever price they shell to ya unless its over 100 bucks each. (^_-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon S, February 29, 2000

Sailor Moon S wasn't bad at all it was cute and funny. It was what I liked best about it. Yes, its a love story but hey Luna is adorable and Artemis is so cute especially with his feelings towards Luna. And I love how Serena and Darien are together. *grin* You have got to see it for yourself. And the guys(few that are there) are cute to begin with. And no there's not any real nudity. And the plot is really good. Of course I'm use to the american version of Sailor Moon so the Japanese uncut is really cool its seeing something in a whole other view.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful movie!, April 8, 2000
This movie is wonderful! For along time, over the internet I've heard how great this other version of sailor moon is. I thought about waiting to get the Dub, but I couldn't wait till May 23. So I just decided to get subtitles. and when I saw it, I thought it was the best sailor moon ever. I couldn't believe I actully liked the dub. I never knew what I was missing! I even went back and got the R subtitled which I already had dubbed, and I couldn't believe I actully got it dubbed. now I can see why everyone thought the Dub was horrible. I even have the SS subtitled. If everyone is afraid of subtitles, you just have to watch the movie about 2 times and you won't have to read subtitles! I'm so glad I didn't wait to get the dub. I would have never have gotton to see sailor moon how it was ment to be seen. I'm already getting the three seasons we don't get in the mail real soon in subs. (S,ss,and stars) Can't wait till they come. I fully recomened this movie in subtitles. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon S Movie gets 5 STARS, January 31, 2000
By A Customer
I think this movie was very well done. The storyline follows through real well and the animation is spectacular. You see all of the inner and outer senshi (soldier in japanese) except Sailor Saturn.

The story is about a mysterious comet approaching Earth during the girls last winter vacation in middle school. Luna is in love w/an astronamer named Kakeru and an ice queen is trying to freeze the Earth.

This movie is a must for all Sailor Moon fans, esspecially those only limited to the North American version. This movie is meant for people ages 12 and up. Parents should think twice before showing this to a younger child. Otherwise, this is a lovely movie. Enjoy!
