Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

High-pitched, relentlessly fast-paced, and filmed in eye-gouging, gumball color, this video series collects dubbed episodes of the Japanese animated series about a group of schoolgirl superheroes. In Japan, it's a lighthearted kiddy variation on a popular sub-genre--stories of alienated, but supernaturally gifted adolescents granted paranormal powers and enlisted in apocalyptic struggles between the dimensions. Imported to the United States in an attempt to create a Power Rangers-style mega-hit for girls, Sailor Moon hasn't become a mainstream phenomenon on that scale, although it has passionate, even obsessive fans, many of whom are much older than the intended demographic. (A Sailor Moon Web search can be a truly surreal experience.) The chirpy, giggly tone may be off-putting for some, but the level of visual imagination (and the self-sufficient courage of the young heroines) is exhilarating, especially when kids and parents watch together. This is this fifth volume in the video series: Serena, as Sailor Moon, has by now enlisted the support of a high-powered troop of Sailor Scouts--Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, et al. In the first of these two episodes, "A Crystal Clear Destiny," secret identities have to be revealed in a crisis, always a sticky wicket for a superheroine. In "A Relunctant Princess," Serena's moon force gets a power boost. (Running time: 44 minutes) --David Chute

From the back cover

Serena, an ordinary 14-year old, discovers that she is really SAILOR MOON, a superhero with an extraordinary past that goes back 1,000 years! But the evil forces she escaped on the Moon have followed her, and each day Serena must battle them to save Earth! A Crystal Clear Destiny. Serena and Darien have a fateful showdown with Zoycite, but she tricks them into giving her the seven rainbow crystals. Trapped in a crumbling tower of ice, Serena and Darien must reveal their true identities to each other in a desperate attempt to save their lives! A Reluctant Princess. To everyone's surprise, Serena's second secret identity is revealed! Her moon power ha doubled, but is it strong enough to save an unconscious Darien who has been cosmically kidnapped and brought to the feet of the super powerful Queen Beryl?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Dubbed Episodes That are Actually Good!, February 13, 2000

Hi, I gotta say these are the best dubbed episodes you can get. In these episodes all secrects are revealed (darien finds out who sailor moon is, serena finds out who tuxedo mask is and everyone finds out who the moon princess is!) not only do these episodes have great story in them, but they also have the best song! ("My Only Love") I hope this was helpful! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon fans, look at this one; it won't disappoint., October 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sailor Moon: Secret Identities [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video provides the viewer with everything a good show has: Action, suspense, and a little melodrama tossed in. However, I don't understand how Serena and Darien failed to recognize one another as the defenders of justice. After all, it seems rather obvious to us, no? Anyway, onto another subject area. Zoycite's death is truly touching. Hard to ignore it. On the web, I can't possibly overlook all the "true-to-the-original Sailor Moon fans" and their trashing of this character, along with DiC. So what if they made her into a woman? I personally adore the female Zoey, and I'm not ashamed to let anyone know it. Kirsten Bishop did an exceptional voice job, especially the "Hahahahahahahaha!" laugh. You have your opinions, and I have mine. If I'm the only one who is a devoted female Zoycite fan ... so be it. I'll stop rambling and say that, once again, this video deserves the five-star rating I have given it.

I don't usually buy the dubbed Sailor Moon, but this is definately an exeption!! This was the Sailor Moon that I first started watching (Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R). This tape has my fave episode out of the whole series : Secret Identities!! Usagi and Mamoru(Serena and Darien) finally find out eachothers true identities, and remember their pasts!! It is SOOOO touching.... then there's another surprise!! If you are a big SM fan, than you must own this tape!! Hope this was helpful!!
