Ahh.. bad info in the reviews!,
By Hitsuji (noanimemangaville) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I'm choking here! People are saying wrong info about this book. It will always drive me nuts. ^_^ (for those who know me, yes, I've reviewed the other books too) Having the original Japanese manga... I can say these statements: 1. Her name will not be Riri when you get the book. It stays Chibichibi. (this I have from people who have gotten this book in English) 2. NO Chibichibi is not the final form of Sailor Moon, nor does the manga ever say it explicitly. That's CONJECTURE. No one knows who Sailor Cosmos is! (and no, it does not show up in this manga either) --;; And no.. she is not anyone's daughter either. (never stated) 3. This book covers the arrival of the Starlights, the leaving of Darien/ Mamoru. You get to see Princess Kakyuu as well... and Michiru angry! (It's just a classic moment). It's the set up. And some of the senshi/ scouts get taken.. ^_^ 4. red, is probably a misunderstanding of the katakana. Red and Lead in Katakana are spelled the same. Lack of research is to blame. --;; blame the editor and the translator. Yes, this is not dubbed, it's a translation. Anime is dubbed, Books are translated. Dubbed= voice. translation= words. 5. If you are going to complain about translation, then why are you spelling manga M-A-N-G-A-S? It's Manga.. whether it's 100 or 1000 or just 1, it's still M-A-N-G-A. Don't complain unless you know enough of your Japanese to back it up! 6. NO it's not Star Gentle Illusion. It's Star Gentle Uterus. Why? Maboroshi is Illusion and Illusion in katakana looks nothing like Uterus. E-ru-si-on v. E-u-te-re-su (not even close) Again, wrong accusation. Learn your katakana. Star Gentle Uterus is not stupid either. ^_^ Look up mythology stuff and you'll see why she chose it. 7. The best Sailor Moon tankoubon (or pocket Mixx) I think are 10, 14 (Supers 4), and 18 (Stars 3). Best drawn, best constructed in plot. Though some people might not get the Zen effect that she tends to put into those volumes. 8. I can support this with the fact that I'm doing a Sailor Moon manga FAQ.. which I got permission from someone who translated it and also from the CEO of Mixx.. ^_^ Ken Aromdee too.. for those who know him. (Having all 18 Japanese manga helps too.. and the majority of the Mixx versions, until I ran out of cash --;;)

AWESOME!!!,
By Jamie White "Writer and Then Some" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
well ^^ I loved the animeversion of Stars (I saw a fansub of the whole series)... the manga version, as always, is darker then the anime (a LOT darker!! in the anime, none of the Sailor Senshi die until the end ;P, in the manga, they strt dying right off the bat!)in any case, as always, I am a great admirer of Naoko Takeuchi, and I LOVE the artwork in this volume!!! ^^ it's just gorgeous, and yes, the villains, as always, die off pretty darn fast, but oh well ^^ book two is even cooler then the first and I simply cannot wait until the final one comes out!! :) the only thing that bothers me about the Stars manga translation is that first, they call Sailor Lead Crow Sailor RED Crow ^^ actually, Red Crow, although incorrect (as one reveiwer noted), doesn't sound half bad -- what Really bugs me, though, is how they call the Galaxy Cauldron the Galaxy Cordon in the second volume o_O... CORDON?? oh well ^^ in any case, tho, other then a few misstranslations an screw-ups here and there (they call Rini by her Japanese name ^^ although, actually, this was quite unavoidable, as Bunny's mom sees Chibiusa's cup, and is suddenly trying to remember just who the heck CHibiusa is.. and she says "Chibi.... Chibi..") ^^ I'm quite glad they left it in like that, although it's sort of funny, b/c tehy were calling her something etirely differnt ^^ in any case, I've also noticed that, particularly in later volumes, like the Super S volumes and Stars, that they occasioanlly called the "Scouts" by their Japanese title: Sailor Senshi (Senshi means Soldier(s) ^^). it's almost humourous, and it's even stragner then in the Sailor Moon S anime season's dub, where half the time they call them "Sailor Soldiers" and half the time call them Scouts ^^ *grin* *rolls eyes* in any case, I think it's kind of weird that they put "Riri" in there, b/c that isNOT what they've calling her *giggle*, oh well ^^ in any case, I truly loved the Stars anime, and have thus far genuinely enjoyed the manga, as well ^^ I can't wait to see what happens! :)

Good book, bad translation,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This is a great book for all Sailor Moon fans. Unfortunatly MIX didn't translate it right, so most if the dialoge isn't the original. I was out raged at this because I really like the Starlights and I don't want people reading things that Mrs.Takeuchi didn't intend them to say! The names are dubbed (Some of them are) but it still has a great plot. I would recomend seeing the uncut anime as well though.

Don't be so sad,
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
In this start of the Stars series, Darien, Usagi's(Sailor Moon) Boyfriend, lover and friend is going off to Harvard college for a year. Of course she's upset( I would too, he's so gorgeous) anyway as she sees him off at the airport he tells her something very special for the first time and gives her something too, but moments after he dissapears right before her eyes, and her being so shocked she faints and forgets what really happened. After that a lot of strange things start happening. These new mysterious guys start school with her and each one of her friends and comrads have been dissapearing right before her eyes, and that's not even the beggining.....if you want to know what happens keep reading...it's worth it especially the last book(3rd one). Sailor Moon Stars,

This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Sailor Moon StarS. A great book, but like someone else said I had to read it a couple of times to fully understand what was going on. Of course if your just starting out - read sailor moon series at the begining. This book is great - sadly it begins on a piteful note Darien leaves for Harvard (wow) and Rini leaves to return home to the 30th century. Then a little girl appears and Bunny is told the girl is her sister. A boy band comes to town and Mina goes wild - and to top it all off a bunch of wacked out sailor scouts show up - Sailor Iron Mouse?... Its a great book and Naoko keeps putting out great Sailor Moon stories -Keep it up!! Buy this book!!

Sailor Stars #1 Review,
By "animelover303" (Anime Heavan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I have read the manga and watched the show, but none fo the manga OR the dubbed episodes have come close to this one. I have read all the manga out so far of Sailor Moon, but this one is the best. I love seeing the original drawings, and in this roughly translated manga by Mixx and ChicksComix, it is the closest translation to the real thing. Of course, the names are changed from Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako to Bunny, Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina. But of couse, everything that ever was aime is Americanized now. This manga is a very nice intro to the Sailor Stars series, and I can only wait for the next to come out. If you have liked all the other manga, this next series keeps the series alive.

this manga rocks!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
In fact all of them rock! the whole series is about a teeneger named sarena, aka sailor moon. She fights the negaverse, the blackmoon, while defending the future crystal tokyo and the moon. She has a boyfriend named mamoru/darien and a "family". her real family is on the moon....gone. THe books are great because, i think, they teach you good things to know. The tv show does that 2, but just by saying right out loud at the end. You will find out more about the books if you just read them they rock and the dvds rock butthe books are bettter. I hope this helped u!

Sailor Moon Stars #1,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This is one of the best Sailor Moon manga I have ever read. The Starlights are incredible. The illustrations are incredible. The storyline is incredible. Three of the Outer Senshi's castles are shown. We meet Sailor Galaxia and her Animates. What is up with Sailor RED Crow, though? It is supposed to be LEAD Crow, in keeping with all the other Animates. (IRON Mouse, ALUMINUM Siren, TIN Nyanko- they're all metals) One more thing. It is not Sailor Chibichibi Moon, it is Sailor Chibichibi!!!

Usagi's in trouble,
By
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Just when things finally settled down in their messed up world,Usagi and the rest find themselves face-to-face with another enemy and Usagi is hit the hardest. Most of the senshi (minus three) die right before her eyes. She constantly tries to block out the memories and basically goes insane when she realizes that her friends are dead. I had to read it a couple of times to get just about everything that happens in this book and I would suggest everyone else doing the same. It really helps you to spot out things that you missed.

Totally insane prices!!!,
This review is from: Sailor Moon Stars, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I love Sailor Moon, it's my favorite anime and manga. This volume is beautifully drawn, and I think older fans especially will appreciate the darker tone to the Stars story arc.
However, I think it's absolutely crazy to pay that much for any manga that isnt like, completely out of print! (which Sailor Moon certainly is not) I have gotten most of my Sailor Moon manga (I only have the Japanese ones) at Kinokuniya in NYC and Edgewater NJ, even used first-editions with the pull out posters, for about 6 bucks!! And, considering the errors I found in the Tokyopop versions (blatant name changing from page to page and spelling errors) they're not worth the ten bucks that they sell their graphic novels for! |
