Taste and See,

This review is from: Billy Budd, Sailor and Selected Tales (Oxford World's Classics) (Paperback)
This collection offers an excellent taste of Melville's shorter works, including his brilliant, posthumously-published novella "Billy Budd, Sailor", "Bartleby, the Scrivener," and "Benito Cereno." As I wrote in my review of "Moby-Dick", at the risk of sounding cheesy, Melville was a master with words. I am constantly amazed at how in-depth and with such detail, and often humorously, he describes people, places, things, and states of mind. So, if you have read "Moby-Dick" and are hungry for more, this volume proves a delightful next course. But, if you have contemplated "Moby-Dick" but are not sure if you are ready to dig in quite yet, this will prove a delicious appetizer. Either way, taste and see. |
