On their Website, this UK band describes its music as having "a powerful, sunshine sound." This sunshine sound comes via 60's pop a la the Everly Brothers, the Byrds, and Dusty Springfield's "I Only Want to Be With You," with splashes of the Beatles and ELO (themselves related bands, and yes, I know ELO is from the 70's). If you enjoy the Pipettes, you will surely love this band, too. Standout tracks include opener "See Myself," "The Slow Down," and "Chocolate." Only dud: "Wonderland." Recommended for anyone who loves pop music, played with intelligence, passion and a real love for songcraft.

I purchased this CD after I read a review and listened to the song clips here on Amazon. I have always been a big fan of power pop, sunshine pop, and anything that tries to copy or imitate the Beatles. Well, the SAILS do a pretty decent job of all three things!
They are definitely a sixties styled band with modern day production. I hear shades of the Beatles, (early and through the Magical Mystery era), the Byrds (1965-1967), Paul Revere and the Raiders (1967-1968), and many of the one hit psychedelic bands from '67 and '68.
The first song is a real bouncer in the vein of "There She Goes" by the LAS. "SEE MYSELF"/ The second song could be a Beatle outtake from their anthology album, a good song but not up to a Beatle standard. "THE SLOW DOWN"/ Song three, "MAKE MY DAY" sounds more like a song from late '67 or 1968. It has a psychedelic feel. "WONDERLAND" reminds me of Paul Revere and the Raiders after their heyday on the music charts. (Another psych song)."CHOCOLATE" is an interesting and fun tune that will stick in your head for awhile. "LET'S GET STARTED" is a upbeat powerpop song with a nice hook. "CAN YOU HEAR ME? goes on with the 1968 sound of psychedelic, tripped out spaciness. "THE LOSERS" was not memorable but "FIREBELL ALLEY" was one of my favorites. It has the mellotron sound in the background with a hint of Strawberry Fields. Back to the powerpop of '65 with the upbeat "PETER SHILTON", and that leads to my favorite song, "SHE IS ALL THAT MATTERS" a sappy love song that sounds like many other songs through the years of rock, but for some reason, I just enjoy this song no end. (A sunshine ballad) Finally, "BE EVERYTHING" is another mid-sixties guitar pop song. It was one of the more forgetful songs but not bad either.
If you like the sunshine pop of the BANGLES, DEL AMITRI, SLOAN, or even CHEAP TRICK (more mellow songs like "VOICES" ) , and don't forget the Wondermints, you should enjoy this CD. It's fun to close your eyes, listen and then pretend it's 1967 or '68 again!
