The translation is prefaced by an intriguing and comprehensive introduction, setting her life in context. A translation of the rule of St Clare and a selection of her letters are also included. The text is very reader-friendly with explanatory notes provided were needed.

About the Author
Christopher Stace was for many years, senior classics master at Bradfield College. Other appointments include: Education Fellow Keble College Oxford and Consultant and translator for BBC series All the World's a Stage. He has published several books including: Florence: City of the Lily (Dent, 1989); a translation of The Golden Legend (Penguin 1998) and a translation of Thomas of Celano's The First Life of St Francis (Triangle, 1999). He reviews for The Daily Telegraph, World of Books, BBC Radio 4 Kaleidoscope and World Service Meridian. He lives in Hastings.
