Saint Croix Notes - or Minnesota revisited, November 5, 2010
This review is from: Saint Croix Notes (Paperback)
Saint Croix Notes hits just the right tone. The nuances of a Minnesota life are all here. And I can't think of a better form to expereience those subtle notes than an essay. Adams seemingly meanders through a year in Minnesota like a leaf falling from autumnal branches. Graceful, effortless and unpredictable, his essays nudge us along our own flight to contentment and even serenity. Little joys, little victories, sweet human comedy and even a little distance that is necessary when the words are intended to be spoken on air to listeners far away from Adams' canoe and pen. An excellent read. This book is an annual read for me, as I live too far from my native state to journey back often. Grab a quilt, a cup of coffee and head for the front porch on a cool, frosty morning and read.
