St. Dominic a Likeable Character,
By A Customer
This review is from: Saint Dominic and the Rosary (Vision Books) (Paperback)
I like St. Dominic and the Rosary because it highlights the major events in St. Dominic's life in a way that is colorful and interesting. Incidents described in the book, whether about St. Dominic being accosted by bandits eager to murder him or his attempt to move a picture that would return to its place, are not covered in a dry historical manner but in a lively fashion which make for it being a page-turner book. Altogether, the book is a delightful one to read and I recommend it to anyone wanting to get better acquainted with St. Dominic's character.

I received this as a gift. It became quickly apparent that it wasn't written for a strictly adult audience, containing none of the research references, etc., that one would expect in a serious, detailed biography. However, that in no way diminishes this book. In fact, I often think it must be harder to distill dry history into living history, particularly when focusing on characters from the distant past. No, I didn't learn everything there is to know about Saint Dominic, probably, but I learned what I wanted to know. The writer has a talent for description. Any child above around eleven or twelve could certainly read the book and understand it if generally literate, and possibly even a child younger than that. However, it is also not written in such a child-like manner that an adult wanting a brief education on Saint Dominic and his reason for importance in our Church would be disappointed, either.
