OTTO PREMINGER, OPUS 23,
By Daniel S. "Daniel" (Geneva, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saint Joan [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - France ] (DVD)
*** 1957. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. The screenplay was an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw, "Saint Joan" (York Notes) by Graham Greene. Joan of Arc appears in dream to King Charles VII, decades after her death. Both remember the important moments of the life of Joan. Don't expect glorious battles here, SAINT JOAN offers instead caustic dialogues, about religion and faith, and odd scenes magnificently played by Richard Widmark. If you want to have a complete overview of the Joan of Arc file, check Carl Theodor Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc (Criterion Collection Spine #62) for the trial and Luc Besson's The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc for the battles. A DVD zone discovery.
