About the Author

Father Paul O'Sullivan, O.P., was born on February 7, 1871. After studying in Dublin, he went on to Rome, where he was ordained a Dominican. He then pursued a Lectorate degree for theology, which in turn prepared him for his future career in writing simple, profound books and preaching to the faithful. He is the author of How to Be Happy, All About the Angels, The Wonders of the Mass, Read Me or Rue It, An Easy Way to Become a Saint, and The Secret of Confession.
Father O'Sullivan also founded the "Catholic Printing Press" and established the Rosary Association, one of several associations he created with the Church's permission. He wrote on and had a great devotion to St. Philomena as well. He died in 1958, on the Feast of the Presentation.

St. Philomena is a saint for the hopeless like the popular St. Jude.

Saint Philomema is an amazing Saint. This book deals with all of the Miracles associated with her, and more. One must believe in the existence of God to appreciate the many marvelous Saint's he has raised up to combat evil over the course of Human history, and also to spread Christianity and his word. The book is fabulous, if you Love reading about Catholic Saint's I highly recommend that you read about Saint Philomena. I thank Father Paul Sullivan for introducing me to the story of one of God's incredible children from our human family. Saint's stand out from the rest of us, because what they endure and strive to accomplish spiritually is staggering beyond words. Praise God and Bless You All.

Father O'Sullivan's book on Saint Philomena is a comprehensive look at the history of the devotion to this mysterious martyr from the Catacomb of Saint Priscilla. Dropped from the liturgical calendars in 1961 due to lack of authentic biographical information about her life, Saint Philomena has been nearly forgotten by Catholics of the Post-Vatican 2 era. This is a shame, for contrary to the flood of MIS-information currently published about her, Philomena was NOT de-canonized or declared not to have existed. O'Sullivan's book sheds much needed light on the controversy surrounding the finding of her remains in 1802 in the catacombs.
This child was found with her skull very badly fractured, with evidence of lance-wounds. This, regardless of any controversy about the disarrangement of her tomb-tiles, proves that this Christian child died a horribly violent death. The badly fractured head, coupled with the vial of martyrs' blood placed inside the tomb next to her head, PROVES her martyrdom for all who care to see the truth. Her Sainthood is proven by the numerous and well-documented miracles which have continued to occur since 1805, when people first began to ask this mysterious Child Saint to pray for them.
I am delighted that Father O'Sullivan's book is again available, and I encourage all who want an ACCURATE assessment of the story of Saint Philomena, to get and read THIS book, and not the more modern and erroneous books and articles about her.

The book is excellent. The other two reviewers were correct in many ways. St. Philomena is terrific and this book is just great in getting out the facts. She is so powerful because she is in heaven interceding on behalf of those who ask for her intercessionary prayers. This book shows how to receive favors from God through her intercession. I strongly recommend this book and the adoption of St. Philomena as a patron (or patroness) saint. I also recommend obtaining her chaplet (see page 96) in this book. Good Reading and God's Blessings!

This is a great book. St Philomena seems to be a saint who is particularly close to God, and you'll understand why once you read about the circumstances of her death and the the incredible success which people have had when asking for this saint's intercession. I'm glad to see that devotion to this saint has been increasing in recent years, after having slacked off somewhat just after Vatican II.

I always admire visionaries who have private revelations of supernatural good. In this Age of unbelief and doubt, this saint is indeed powerful with God in her intercessory prayers!

What struck me most was the 3 independent stories from 3 visionaries who don't know one another but came up with the same independent account of St. Philomena's life and martrydom. Considering that birth certificates are a modern invention, the only way independent sources can come up with her story are through direct visitations from the saint herself. I'm no stranger to the world of the supernatural and people who died the way St. Philomena died often come back to tell their stories in some form or another. Thank God St. Philomena isn't your typical lost, earth-bound ghost!

One devotee in the this book describes his wife who discovers new things each time she opens this book. I experienced the same. Having read this book from cover to cover, you somehow never cease to find something new for your situation every time you open this book, as if you've never read a particular passage before.

In another story of the book, a priest miraculously attested to the sudden multiplication of St. Philomena devotional books. Reminds you of Jesus' miraculous multiplication of bread loaves and fishes in his time.
I've personally lost my St. Philomena collections many times in the countries that I visit, but somehow, I always get replacements in some way or another. While I have dismissed such instances as coincidences the first few times, if these so-called coincidences happen over and over again, then I can't possibly dismiss them as mere coincidences, can I?

Like all supernatural events, you yourself need to experience it directly, first hand in person!

My entire family has read the French translation of this excellent and faithful defense of our friend and Patroness Saint Philomena.

This is an excellent scholarly, accurate, fact-based defense of the life of this Saint from both the archeological record and the hagiographic record. While it concludes with a devotional tone that encourages us to ask this wonderful friend of Christians for her intersession, it is by no means sappy or artificially saccharine in piety. This is a well-reasoned and faithful encouragement for the faithful to turn to the full treasures and merits of the Church that Saint Philomena so richly exemplifies, from her total devotion to being a bride of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Saint Philomena thank you!
