The Saints have arrived!,
By
This review is from: Saints Are Coming (Audio CD)
I like Green Day and U2 fine, but I cannot call myself a fan, as I did not own any of their CD's, until this one. I am a fan of the New Olreans Saints, and I was at the Superdome that fantastic Monday night when this song was recorded. This CD, "The Saints Are Coming", is a lasting memorial of that night, when all seemed right with New Orleans again. Thanks to U2 and Green Day for helping with our recovery. Proceeds from the sale of this CD help area musicians replace instruments lost during hurricane Katrina. Many thanks to all who purchase it.

U2 & Green Day Join Forces,
This review is from: Saints Are Coming (Audio CD)
U2 & Green Day team up to give a rousing performance of The Skids "The Saints Are Coming". Both bands are punk rockers at heart and their version of the song is one of the best recordings of the year. Their performance at the reopening of the Super Dome was inspirational and the feeling emanates from the live recording. Sometimes when two major artists join forces, the results are less than spectacular, but that is not the case on this song.

Guitar Legend,
By Matrix (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saints Are Coming (Audio CD)
Nearly 5 years after his tragic death, legendary guitarist Stuart Adamson (The Skids) would have been proud to see one of his tracks faithfully covered by U2 and Greenday. If you like this (which is very close to the original) try the rest of the original album "Scared To Dance" which has some great punk guitar riffery by Stuart Adamson. "Into The Valley" was their other classic track from this album ... but as a guitar player myself I always had a soft spot for "Calling The Tune" which has some surprisingly subtly layered guitar lines floating in the backing track.

Two great bands collaborating... U2 and Green Day. I'd never have imagined it, seriously. This song's great: the beginning starts out with Billie Joe singing a few lines from The Animals "House Of The Rising Sun" (goes so perfectly with the Skids' lyrics) then Bono does his thing and it's just pure brilliance. Two great voices, one great song, and The Edge's signature guitar sound throughout the whole thing. Get it, it's totally worth your money.

Exceptional Song...Exceptional Single!,

Not only is the song the best cover U2 has done in years, but the single (which also includes the live version from the Superdome) gives you both the Rick Rubin produced studio version and the aforementioned Superdome version. Buy it. It's VERY worth it.

3 Great Reasons. Billie Joe, Bono, Music Rising,
By
This review is from: Saints Are Coming (Audio CD)
With the vocal talents of Billie Joe Armstrong and Bono, this song was guaranteed to be a hit before it was even recorded. Better yet, all proceeds go to Music Rising.

Best Single of 2006,

Green Day and U2 cover The Skids and donate to Katrina releif. They brought out the best in each other. Taking on a cover song and melding it with a snippet of "House Of The Rising Sun" made this superstar collaboration the best single of the year 2006. Especially since our feds have conveniently forgotten about the victims of Katrina."

A Great Collaboration,
By
This review is from: Saints Are Coming (Audio CD)
Wow! I never imagined that U2 and Green Day would ever make a song together. It was just one of those things I never thought of. However, it is great. The song doesn't really sound like a Green Day song, but it does song like a U2 song. Billy Joe and Bono both trade off on the vocals, which gives the song many rich layers. As for the music itself, the song starts out soft with piano and then kicks into a fast and hard alternative rock song. This song is a strong performance for both Green Day and U2. I like Green Day, but love U2, and this song is just another wonderful piece of music to put in their catalog. As for the CD single, $10 is pretty pricey for a song that is going to be included on a best of collection. As for the live version, you can get on the Internet for like $1, so to buy this single, is sort of pointless. Perhaps some remixes or extra tracks, by either Green Day or U2 would have made this single worth $10. Oh well, The Saints are Coming is still a great song regardless.

A Kid's Review

I am NOT a big fan of U2... indeed I only heard 2 songs (Elevation and Electrical Storm) and I liked neither of them.
But when they team up with Green Day (my all-time favourite band) they can make one hell of a song. I just saw it on Yahoo! Music so I thought I'd have a listen and then it just blew my mind. GET IT TODAY!!!

I bought two copies of this, one for our New Orleans Saints collection and one for a co-worker who's been a season ticket holder since 1979, when they were still the "Aints." Green Day has always been one of my favorite bands, and this collaboration with U2 is an energetic, uplifting homage to a team and a city that has come up from absolute disaster and triumphed. The CDs came to me very quickly and were in great condition!
