Better than their debut,
By stephen Garry (Manchester England) - See all my reviews

The All Saints new album shows that they have grown up and matured dramaticaly since their debut. The album kick starts with the two UK number ones Pure Shores and Black coffee (both of which had a helping hand from William Orbit) and then carries on through a load of class A tracks. The standard is so high on this album that the likes of the Spice Girls and TlC are going to have to worry about who is the best girl group when songs as good as these are being turned out. This album was bought for me as a present and at first i wasnt very happy as i wasnt a fan of any of their earlier music, but when i played the cd i knew that someone had made a sound investment on my behalf. This is a must have by all music lovers.

All Saints Get it Together!,

The All Saints' sophomore album "Saints and Sinners" is a wonderful CD that stands as a vast improvement over their debut self-titled album. It is jam-packed with mellow tunes and funky beats, with an overpowering feel-good atmosphere present throughout its fourteen tracks. The album's major drawcard, the stunning dance track "Pure Shores", is a shining example of what the remainder of this enjoyable album is all about. "Black Coffee" (the album's first official single) follows in a similar vein, as it is a rather slow adaptation of "Pure Shores" with a strong Caribbean feel about it. I was impressed that the album could flow from carefree dance tunes, to passionate raps, to somber ballads in a manner that still manages to be coherent. In particular, I appreciated the fact that the All Saints managed to weave so many fiery raps and other interesting vocal techniques into the album. For example, the rap incorporated in the "Pure Shores" remix adds a whole new dimension to a song that is excellent enough in its original form. Other standout songs on the album include "Surrender", the damn funky "Ha Ha", "All Hooked Up" and the dynamic title track "Saints & Sinners". Overall, I think this album is an amazing pop/funk/dance recording that would appeal to anybody from teeny-boppers to adults. Without exaggerating, I would go as far as to say it represents the finest release from one of the greatest pop groups in the world. Do yourself a favor: purchase this album and start raving like me!

So the Saints FINALLY return with a follow up to their hit filled debut and this is one EXCELLENT album! If the brilliant "Pure shores" didn't get you excited, then surely the mesmerising "Black coffee" got under your skin. With William Orbit at the helm, the girls move into deeper, sexier musical waters and the album is lifted. "Black coffee" is SO infectious, it will NEVER let go -and DON'T wait to see the girls perform that sexy routine live! Not every track on the set has the power to hit you like the 2 singles BUT other highlights include the outrageously seXy "All hooked up" with it's sleazy, deep, Shaznay-sung hooks >> "I know that you want a piece of my ass -don't you know that a guy like you wouldn't last?". The gorgeous "Surrender" sounds very much like a take from Ray of Light or Music thanks to William Orbit's perfect production BUT it's a killer track all the same and destined to ride high in the charts. "Love on love" is a delicious 80's style pop-dance confection that lifts the second half of the set. The Saints are hardly your average all singing-all dancing girl band and this album is most certainly not disposable, trashy pop. Discover the difference for yourselves! This UK version includes a B side "I don't wanna be alone" and the latin-spiced "One more tequila" BUT **check out** the Australian release which features 2 bonus RnB remixes of "Shores" and "Coffee".

What a disappointment,
This review is from: Saints & Sinners (+2 Bonus Tracks) (Audio CD)
Hey, Pure Shores is ok for a theme tune (some nice harmonies) and Black Coffee surely has some slick (especially their hip swivelling dance routine) but this is a terrible album. I am afraid I had to switch it off before it finished, it is so dull! I had thought that Shaznay was a good songwriter and that the band had taken a more hard bitten, street wise direction but all the tracks seem to merge together into irritating background muzak.Don't buy this unless you are so in love with them that you do not care. Even the inside photo shots just seem to miss the point! I am going to give my copy away!

When I first heard this band's debut CD I found it mildly diverting but more-or-less dismissed them as a slightly funkier copycat of the Spice Girls who were all the rage at the time. Now, with this their sophomore effort, All Saints are a musical group to be reckoned with. I'd even venture to say they are better than TLC, Destiny's Child, and all those groups of a similar ilk that have come into their own over the past five years. This isn't by any means a perfect CD. The first half is better than the second - the songs are more distinctive, the grooves funkier and more interesting. This is helped no doubt by the contributions of William Orbit who co-wrote the album's first hit single and the album's opener "Pure Shores" and the current smash "Black Coffee". "Black Coffee" in particular has a spaced-out electronic, 1960's "mod" feel that is slightly reminiscent of "Beautiful Stranger" and "Amazing", two of Orbit's most recent, successful collaborations with Madonna. Other tracks of note: #3Dreams #6 Whoopin' Over You", #7 I Feel You, #8 Surrender, #10 Love is Love. #2 All Hooked Up is pretty good too, though incredibly sleazy. Not perfect but the grooves are hypnotic and the album is infused with a raw sexuality that becomes more distinct with each listen.

funky pop,

All Saints distance themselves even more from the spice girls with their latest release. This Cd is awesome! On each and every track the girls sing to the max, give us attitude and sass, and the production is seemless and amazing. "Saints & Sinners" is an amazing blend of electro-pop/r&b/funk. From the sexy attitude filled "all hooked up" to the sweet and gentle "i feel you" and the electro-pop "black coffee", this album is a must for any music lover. It's pop with that extra twist. Way to go girls! (Oh and the 2 bunus tracks are awesome as well)

This is a wonderful cd. The songs are simply mesmerizing and are perfect for a good dance party. The perfection of their songs is so complete that they go beyond the normal worked song level of their contemporary groups. Despite the rhythm and beat that makes the songs easy to dance to, the blend of their voices is the focus of their songs. Despite the fact that Pure Shores and Black Coffee have become international hits, many other songs on the cd reach their level and sophistication. The best of them all are All Hooked Up, Whoopin' over You, Saints & Sinners yet Dreams, Surrender, Ha Ha and Ready, Willing and Able are also very good.

lemme just say dat i searched fer hours and hours on the internet to track down dis cd . . . even worse i pleaded and bargained fer days and days wit my dad to let me bid on dis cd . . . every single passing day dat my cd didn't come in the mail seemed lyke an eternity . . . well it has finally come and it is such a phat cd dat i would gladly go thru the struggle all over again fer dis wonderful cd. i enjoyed dis cd more than their first (which is also a very good one) and if you buy dis cd you'll get another unique dose of phat beats and sweet melodies from these cyute grrls. n/e wayz . . . pure shores has a kewl relaxed sound but also takes on a rough kinda edge in the middle of the song .all hookt up shoes the saints' bad syde wit the "saucy"iest (ha ha) lyrics and kewlest beats and background sounds, wit a lyne in there dat goes sumdin lyke dis "i knoe dat u wanna piece a my . . ." hmmmm. movin on . . . dreams just myte be my favorite sloe song on dis cd but don't get me wrong it's far from being just a boring draggin sloe song cuz dis joint is laced up wit tyte spacey sounds and infiltratingly hypnotizing harmonies. distance has nyce and soothin gutiar sounds in it but at the sayme tyme also makes u wanna move wit all creative werds and a good use of scratching in the middle. black coffe! variety galore . . . starts off spacey and intriguing, starts to get happy and pop-ish, goes back to depressingly (yet kewl) techno-ish sounds and back to pop again. but in the middle of the song is this phat phat phat sound of lyke metal or chains dat sounds so phat and they mix it wit lyke the 007 game type sound . . . but the ending is the best cuz it goes out wit a phat dance beat and leaves u wantin more more more. whoopin over you adds much variety to dis masterpiece. kinda a smashmouth type sound but also sounds alot lyke the c&c musik factery and a kewl chorus dat sounds lyke dat one song dat goes " . . . wanna ryde wit da new freestylers . . ." yeah it's kewl. i feel you is also a nyce sloe song dressed up wit phat beats and sounds and as weird as it sounds the chorus part reminds me a lotta the sesame street theme. don't ask . . . surrender is also a bit "saucy" but focuses more on just pure love than just plain sleeziness . . . the beautiful voices and the simple yet creative use of the repetition of the werd "surrender" makes dis hot . . . haha adds kewl lyrics dat fit into the beat of the song and deals wit how as kids they were told they couldnt sing or make it . . . way wrong. love is love has a phat beat dat reminds me so much of my mega man x game cuz da kewl musik is so upbeat and kewl . . . ready willing and able is another one of those sensual songs and falls somewhere in between all hookt up and surrender. not sleezy but not angelik. good beats though. saints and sinners is kinda where the saints admit to their human nature and aknowledge they can be sinners but they should be saints, don't judge cuz it's very tru cuz who are we to talk. i don't wanna be alone has a creative chorus and kewl sounds dat go wit the werds. one more tequila adds the latin flavor and very very hypnotizing and fun. dis cd has so much hvariety and is anything but just pop musik. far from it actually cuz dis cd shoes so much hip hop and techno influences . . . original though. it has the prettiest piktures of these grlls ever in dis cd wit a kewl club scene design. dis cd will not be out in america till next year 2k1 but buy it now cuz a masterpiece can't wait . . . i didnt spend all dis tyme tryin to convince u fer nuttin.

i'm not reviewin dis cd, but i thought i'd give some helpful information fer n/e one who's interested in buying dis cd. at first i was very dissapointed cuz i thought that all saints (a very talented group) wasn't going to make a sophomore cd. but after hours of searching i found out some pretty good info on dis cd: dis is a 14 track cd and the tracks are as follows: 1.pure shores, 2.all hooked up, 3.dreams, 4.distance, 5.black coffee, 6.whoopin' over you, 7.i feel you, 8.surrender, 9.ha ha, 10.love is love, 11.ready, willing and able, 12.saints & sinners and dis particular cd comes with two extra tracks: one more tequila, i don't wanna be alone. there is also another version of dis cd dat comes wit two different extra tracks: a pure shores remix and a black coffee remix. n/e wayz . . . i also saw the cover art for dis cd and it is quite possibly one of the phattest lookin cd cases i've seen wit hot pictures of the grrls in a club scene. n/e wayz i am plannin on buyin dis cd and i'm reviewing it and giving it five stars now as a source of help fer n/e one who is confused about dis cd. i'm also pretty sure dat, since i enjoyed their first cd so much, dat dis cd will be just as good, if not better. buy dis cd . . . |
