5.0 out of 5 stars LOUD and MELODIC hard rock classic!
I think this was the only album put out by this band. That is quite a shame because it is one of my all-time favorites. Think of Bon Jovi/Skid Row etc but LOUDER AND MORE AGGRESSIVE while keeping to the core formula of rocking anthems and soaring ballads. The drums on this album are absolutely LOUD and POUNDING throughout, the lead and rhythm guitars kick @ss big time and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but No SWORD

I bought this cd used based on the fact that it had the lead singer from sword, and guest appearances by other members of the group. I was disapointed to find out is shares nothing with sword except the singer, who you wouldn't recognise if you didn't know it was him. Sword was a power metal band. This is a sleeze/glam out put in the same vein as Skid Row, which isn't surprising, since it has tracks written by Rachel Bolan and Jon Bon Jovi. Also, Aldo Nova gets songwritting credit on almost every track, and is also listed as additional guitars.
It is a very solid album, and has some memorable songs, with standout being Wheels Of Fire(NOT the Sword song) and Frankenstein. Very good for this type of music. They probably could have made it biger in the US, but being released in 1992, grunge already had it's filthy little hands around the neck of this type of metal. If you're into sleeze/glam type rock, this is one for you, but if you are into harder things, save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOUD and MELODIC hard rock classic!, October 13, 2011
This review is from: Saints & Sinners (Audio CD)
I think this was the only album put out by this band. That is quite a shame because it is one of my all-time favorites. Think of Bon Jovi/Skid Row etc but LOUDER AND MORE AGGRESSIVE while keeping to the core formula of rocking anthems and soaring ballads. The drums on this album are absolutely LOUD and POUNDING throughout, the lead and rhythm guitars kick @ss big time and the lead singer belts out the lyrics with supreme hair metal attitude. I guarantee this band would have made it big if it had released this album in the halcyon days of 80's hair metal.

This one is hard to find nowadays but is well worth obtaining. My collection would be nothing without it. It is definitely up there in the top 25 CDs that I own (out of 1,000 plus).

5.0 out of 5 stars A true hidden GEM from the early 90s, October 10, 2009
This review is from: Saints & Sinners (Audio CD)
Take one look at the back cover of this album and you have an idea what is in store for your aural entertainment. There is a picture of the band replete with long hair, black leather and ripped jeans. Yes, this is hair metal but there is no bubble gum here. These guys rock hard and "RIP IT UP" on most of this album, as indicated by the title of track number two on the album.

Speaking of that song, I would consider nominating it as one of the all-time best songs to come out of this 80's genre. YES, it is THAT GOOD! However, the album is not carried by the weight of this song alone (although it could be). "Takin my chances" is a classic power ballad that would also rank as one of the all-time best ever made. "We Belong" is a great anthemic type semi-ballad that will have you singing along for days after hearing it. "Slippin into Darkness" and "Lesson of Love" are both intense hard rocking metal tracks with great guitar and driving rhythm throughout. Slippin' also has a real nice guitar solo in the middle. "Frankenstein" is an epic rock song that reminds me of Alice Cooper in the 80s (probably from the lyrics I guess). The rest of the songs are good as well but are not my favorites off the album. "Wheels of Fire" reminds me a little of Motley Crue.

If you like your music full of loud, crunchy guitars, pounding drums, strong vocals and power melodies, this is a must have album. I would say that 5-7 tracks are absolute killer and the rest are not bad. How many times can you say that for a ten track album? This is definitely a five star album in my book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original Purchase 1992, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Saints & Sinners (Audio CD)
I bought this CD in 1992 and it knocked my socks off. I am a big time fan of 80's rock and hair bands. This disc stands the test of time. No fillers! Straight in your face, good jams.

Worth every cent you pay! Glad I got mine back in the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Would have been a big CD if not for the onset of the Grunge era, January 10, 2008
This review is from: Saints & Sinners (Audio CD)
This album is a nice hidden treasure from the hair metal era. Cool songs, great melodies, good musicianship and strong production. The Aldo Nova influence is evident although the songs have a much harder edge than anything he did in his solo career. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - overlooked melodic rock classic, April 8, 2011
This review is from: Saints & Sinners (Audio CD)
One of the later bands to try and make it big in the "hair metal" era, Saints & Sinners had more going on than the average new band in that scene. Their vocalist, Rick Hughes, was a veteran of power metal band Sword, they had songwriting help from Skid Row's Rachel Bolan and Jon Bon Jovi, and Bon Jovi and Aldo Nova even produced their self-titled 1992 debut.

As you might expect given the players involved, Saints & Sinners was a better than average band, and their debut was a very strong melodic rock album. The closest comparison is probably Hardline's Double Eclipse, in that they both have huge hooks, high production values, party and love lyrics, and dynamic vocals. Standout tracks are the single "Shake," the rockin' "Rip It Up," the melodic, Tyketto-sounding "We Belong" and the closing "Slippin' into Darkness," but the whole album is pretty terrific.

Obviously 1992 was the wrong time to try and make it with this kind of melodic rock sound. Grunge took over, and radio had no use for bands like Saints & Sinners. This was their only album.

If you're a fan of the late `80s and early `90s melodic rock/hair metal sound, particularly bands like Cold Sweat, Hardline and Von Groove, Saints & Sinners is an album you have to hear. Unfortunately it is a tough/expensive one to find. It would be great if someone remastered and reissued this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great forgotten album,, May 21, 2010

How unfortunate for Saints & Sinners, their debut album was released just after grunge destroyed their brand of party-rock. I can't say that I hate all things grunge, but for my money, I would have rather had bands like this keep making records.

This is not a five-star record, sorry guys. Saints & Sinners, did however release a solid album. The first three songs are all up-beat and are probably my favorite on the record. Lesson of Love is also a great song, it has a monster chorus, and awesome guitar work. The rest of the album holds up, but some filler sneaks in and keeps this record from being five stars.

I would say.... full steam ahead with getting this record, except for the fact, that you almost have to cut off your arm to afford it. It's not that good people, and I would never pay what people are asking for this!!
