folk/jazz, excellent musicianship, one of my favorites, July 14, 2008

A former student gave me this CD when I left Montreal to move back to Oregon. It is an excellent CD which I recommend enthusiastically. Belanger's music is a cross between folk and jazz that is edgy, yet melodic. The backup musicians (especially drum and bass) play in a spare, avant-garde style that grabs you. The lead guitar lines are bright, not overly-complex and accent nicely. The vocals are what make Belanger so enticing. Belanger and his group play with style and verve! (is that redudant?)
