A smarter recharge solution,

I've been using my Obsidian mouse for a few weeks and I've really grown to love it. I've had other mice and it always seems it needs recharging or new batteries at just the wrong time. With this one, I swap out the fully charged battery in 5 seconds and I'm back at it. I never worry about whether the mouse was put into a cradle each night.
I also like the new scrolling method over the old wheel type. I can tap it and do more tricks than I could with oter mice. Besides that. its just plain cool looking.

Great style and feel < bad functionality,
This review is from: Saitek Obsidian 1000 dpi Wireless Rechargeable Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
I found the mouse and the peripherals to be highly aesthetically pleasing. In addition the weight of the mouse is perfect: heavy enough to provide just the right amount of kinetic resistance. The batteries and lights are not only cool looking, they do a great job of providing visual feedback as to the remaining charge.
However, the middle scroll button is such a hindrance that it cancels out all of the positive things about this mouse. I really wanted this to work and figured that there must be some proprietary method of operation. I worked... er...struggled with this mouse for the better part of a work day before giving up. I tried varying amounts of pressure as well as varying amounts of surface area of my finger on the sensor. The scroll simply does *not* work. As a matter of fact, it works against you. On the uncommon occasions it does detect that you are attempting to scroll, more often than not, the scroll speed will be excruciatingly slow (or fast!), that is if you can get past the fact that it quite often will scroll in the wrong direction. Sorry Obsidian, I really wanted to love this mouse but scrolling is an extremely important part of my day to day. It sure is a pretty mouse though. Better luck next time.

This mouse is awesome. It is also a conversation piece from it's sleek design and also the docking port. Once you use it, you will not use another mouse.

This wireless mouse is excellent for my use. I build and repair computers, and this mouse is immediately seen, no matter what computer I connect it to. No installation, drivers, or anything else. All other wireless mouses require installation, and rapid switching between computers plus installation of a mouse would take too much time.

This is a good product. But I think it would be good to show picture with the real size because I supposed it was smaller than it really is.

I have used wireless mice in the past, both bluetooth and RF frequency models. So far, I have not found one that is stylish, small, and charges while on the cradle. I thought this Saitek mouse would be cool. It's description specifically says that it has a "recharge cradle".
Well, guess what. It is stylish, but its also HUGE. The worst part though, is that the falsely claimed "recharge cradle" doesn't charge the mouse when its on it, instead it charges an extra battery that you have to replace BY HAND when the current battery suddenly goes dead! Lame! I was hoping that with this mouse, by placing it in the cradle every night, I would eliminate the instances when I have forgotten to plug in my wireless mouse and its battery dies. Unfortunately because of POOR design implementation you still have to struggle with this occurring. And it gets worse. Most mice, when the battery dies, you just plug them in and keep using them while they charge. With this crappy model, when your battery dies, you have to manually remove the battery, replace it with a good one, put the bad one on the charger, continue. Ridiculous. And now the worst part. Guess how long each battery lasts? Not very long for its size, a mere 10 HOURS! This mouse is bogus... save your money for better tech and DON'T order it. Mine is going back immediately. |
