Salaam-e-Ishq follows six couples in their journey with one common problem: Love. Salaam-e-Ishq, in my opinion, sits on the line of romantic comedy/drama. With a cast of stars including Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, and John Abraham this film (like many Bollywood flix) tends to be corny in areas but, in short, is incredibly endearing.
The music is fabulous! I am sorry that the song "Mera Dil" was cut but I enjoyed all the other music so much that I purchased the soundtrack as well. Salaam-e-Ishq. I discovered "Mera Dil" on the soundtrack and I just could not get enough of it. Overall the best part of this film for me was the fact that it is a good start for people who are not into Bollywood. Friends and family members could relate to the subject matter of this film and now want to see more!

Smart, funny, and expertly crafted, this modern masala weaves together six love stories. Each is stylistically distinct and focuses on a different challenge that couples face. The happily married Ashutosh (played by John Abraham) and Tehzeeb (Vidya Balan) overcome family disapproval because of their religious differences but then face an even greater test when tragedy befalls them. Middle-age couple Vinay (Anil Kapoor) and Seema (Juhi Chawla) grapple with boredom and infidelity. Shiven (Akshaye Khanna) gets cold feet before his wedding to Gia (Ayesha Takia). Taxi driver Raju (Govinda) falls in love with an American woman (Shannon Esra) while helping her find the Indian lover who dumped her. Newlyweds Ram (Sohail Khan) and Phoolwati (Isha Koppikar) have a hilariously difficult time trying to consummate their marriage. Each story in this grand multistarrer delivers, but the best one is that of B-list starlet Kamini (Priyanka Chopra) and mystery-man Rahul (Salman Khan), who stage a fake romance as a publicity stunt and find true love in the process. - The Bollywood Ticket: The American guide to Indian movies (http://www.thebollywoodticket.com) Subscribe: The Bollywood Ticket

I loved this "Love Actually" style movie. It has everything. Over the top Bollywood storylines (Salman Khan & Priyanka Chopra's storyline), heartbreaking tales (John Abraham & Vidya Balan and Anil Kapoor & Juhi Chawla's stories), and romantic comedies (Govinda & Shanon Esra, Akshaye Khanna & Ayesha Takia, and Sohail Khan & Isha Koppikkar's stories). The music is great. The performances are wonderful. And it doesn't feel like and over 3 hour movie. Plus the film introduced me to Priyanka Chopra, now one of my favorite stars.

dissappointing film.,
This review is from: Salaam-e-Ishq
With all the talent in this film - S Khan, Priyanka, Vidya Balan, veterans like ANil Kapoor and Juhi, i expected so much more....but the performances were lackluster and the plots uninteresting.
However, there are some good musical numbers (the best, mera dil was cut out!) some 'moments' between Vidya and John A., and Govinda's performance is outstanding. its worth a rental and flick around to the music and select scenes, but hard to sit through for 3+ hours as for the DVD, unfortunately, its an EROS DVD - as usual, shoddily put together and no extras (and commercials stuck in the front) and its not even formatted correctly (chops off the sides of the image).

This is almost like a Bollywood version of " Love Actually"- with 5 different couples and stories somehow meshed into one at the end. While the story lines are a little different from " Love Actually" they are still very much about relationships, love, joy, sadness etc. I very much enjoyed Salaam-e-ishq and my favourite stories/duos were Priyanka/Salman Khan's pretense of love for the sake of fame and John Abraham's dedication and love for his wife suffering from amnesia after a train accident. There's some comic relief thrown in by a newly married couple(totally unrelated to the other stories) who seemed to have rotten luck in consumating their marriage for one reason or another! A very good & watchable movie for a boring Saturday night and while my DVD arrived in good time, the quality and sound was rather poor with picture frames freezing on me halfway through the movie! I'm not sure whether you can get some other versions or make of this DVD but nevertheless, Salaam-e-ishq is highly recommended.

As a big fan of Hindi cinema, this is one of my favorites. Six different couples' love stories are interwoven with plenty of music, color, and drama to go around. If the first half hour doesn't grab you, then persevere - it takes a bit of watching until the six love stories become clear. The movie is chock-full of famous Indian actors, though I think Govinda, as the lovesick taxi driver, really steals the show. If you're not familiar with him, you'll certainly love him by the end.
The stories could be seen as each representing a different aspect or circumstance of romantic love: the routine life of a long-married couple, in which one partner is considering adultery; a very happily married couple who must deal with a life-changing accident; a couple on the verge of getting married until the man gets a bad case of cold feet; two people who are pretending to be in a relationship but unexpectedly fall in love; a taxi driver who (for reasons unknown) wants to fall in love with a foreign white woman and gets the opportunity to do just that; and a couple who, quite frankly, just want to get laid. The highlight of the movie is truly the music, particularly the dance sequence to the title track "Salaam-e-Ishq". This is a fantastic song danced by all six couples, but in different locations and settings. "Tenu Leke" includes breathtaking visuals, such as Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and a cast of extras dancing in various locations in London, including a wide shot of all of them dancing on the Millennium Bridge and the steps of the National Gallery. Watch it, sing along, dance along: Salaam-e-Ishq!

Great buy. I bought it for my sister who just recently became a bollywood fanatic and she loved it as part of her Christmas gifts. She loved the movie even though it was a long one as most bollywood movies are she enjoyed every part of it.

This is a very enjoyable and well made film. A really great cast and several different storylines make the 3 + hours go by quickly. The music is wonderful, too.

The photos on the cover of this DVD made me unclear whether this was to be a serious modern drama like "Life in a Metro". I found that it is modern but very much in keeping with light Bollywood offerings.
It has a very strong cast who all do well. We have Priyanka Chopra as a rising movie star and Salman Khan planning a publicity stunt romance. They were doing some enjoyable light comedy with good timing and I would have liked even more of this section (I usually can take or leave Salman Khan but I thought he was really good in this); Anil Kapoor (as midlife husband flirting with an affair. He is always such a good actor) & Juhi Chawla (his wife), Akshaye Khanna (doing a convincing job as a commitmentphobe) & Ayesha Takia as his girlfriend; John Abraham (who started as nothing much early in the movie but got much stronger as it went) & Vidya Balan (as his wife) and Govinda & Shannon Esra (as his non-Indian love interest. It is six interweaving stories of romance that are varying in their degrees of 'reality' but all reveal different perspectives and truth about the romances involved. The music stands out for me with 2 big memorable songs (that I downloaded) and some good big dance sequences. It is well directed. It is a film with heart and great for lovers of romance and Bollywood. It is modern but doesn't lose the zest of what Bollywood adds in emotions, colour and ability to suck you in. I cared about the characters and shed a tear in the sad section. I really liked this one. However it can be slow in parts and some people find it far too slow. My co-watcher abandoned it first time round but watched it on my recommendation. She did end up enjoying it when she stayed the distance. She would have given it more a 3 1/2 though I think. |
