a masterpiece of regret and longing,
By Furtive Surf "alan" (Santa Clara, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Salad Days (Audio CD)
This album is a lot less accessible than the Beast, but I love it more. It's up there with Pinkerton as a classic feel-bad album and I mean that in the best way possible. It may be that only a certain kind of person at a certain point in their life can identify so closely with this quirky band, but if you do, you will never let them go. I can't listen to Lover Don't Cry without thinking about every girl I've ever broken up with. Moving Up the Valley reminds me of all the things I should have done when I was a younger man. In between the two bookends are some very nice melodies and catchy hooks. I highly recommend this album.

The songs in this album are very melodic, the tunes carry you on a swanky ride. You won't even realize time is passing as you become enveloped in the world of King of France. Kind of like the Beatles + Velvet Underground. The more you listen to it the more you will love it.
