5.0 out of 5 stars excellent family entertainment, December 14, 2000

This review is from: Salam and the Knights of Virtue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I found this video very rewarding. My kids enjoyed it a lot too (age 5 and 8). As arab and Muslim parents we want to see our culture and family values expressed in the entertainment our children engage in. This video reinforces the good virtues our children hear from us everyday, and it is very entertaining to them. The color and animation is very good too. It is wonderful to see the beautiful "Islamic" city that is portrayed here in vibrant colors and authentic Islamic Architecture. Children learn unconsciously from what they watch and hear. For them to see Salam and the Knights as heros that they want to imitate is a real joy. The important thing is that the kids enjoyed it and had fun with it, and actually preferred it over other animated video collections we have.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE!! Lots of Family Values & Fantastic Animation, September 1, 1999

This review is from: Salam and the Knights of Virtue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Excellent cartoon movie for all ages! I was mostly impressed with the unforgetable characters, distinctive story, and smooth animation. This humor-filled animated feature film has an entertaining story line with lovable characters that depicts the trumph of good over evil. Underlying tones of strong family values illustrated by great animation and a wonderful story provides great entertainment for those who are conscience about ensuring their kids watch quality films. Salam (the main character) and his cute sidekicks (the elephant and bird) embark on an adventure to stop the evil Salool from stealing money by recruiting a gang of kids to help him bring harm to the townspeople. At the end, the Knights of Virtue are united and committed to stay away from doing bad. I bought Salam & The Knights of Virtue video for my nephew, and he was automatically hooked - 10 times a day we'd rewind and play! Makes a great gift for birthdays or any occasion. Your kid will absolutely love it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Another Mediocre attempt at best., December 1, 2000

Well, what can I say? To say I am disappointed by this movie is putting it mildly. Again, this is another movie of which the standards were extremely poor.

The audio and visual of this movie were in any case extremely saddening. To see that movies made by Arabs, for the Arab Americans who reside in this country or any other country for that matter, are made with such total lack of resources or talent is maddening to say the least.

Salam, which is the main character,(whose voice is played by an adult woman I might add) is a boy who could be drawn into a world of lies and thievery.Thankfully, Salam has religious parents who would not let this be. The moral of the story is the only redeeming quality. A person must not lie or steal. One should not hang out with friends who could be a bad influence on them.

I just believe that they could have spent a little more time, effort and money to make a better educational film.
