I bought this set for myself and my kids so that we could play in the yard. I had seen the Carlton set for about 35$ in a store and did not like the quality of the rackets and the wobbly poles so I decided to buyt the slightly more expensive Salaun set, for 15 to 20 bucks more.

About this set
It did not disappoint. The set came, like most other sets, in a plastic carrying bag and was complete:
- 6 rackets of which 4 regular size and 2 short, in 4 distinct colors and made of aluminium
- Net (poly)
- Poles (steel)
- Pole fasteners (to pull the net tight)with ground spikes
- 3 nylon shuttles in a container
- carrying bag

The rackets are very decent quality, certainly one grade up from the 7$ steel throw-away stuff. These are actually nice looking, very lightweight (aluminum) and durable. The string is tight and, again, these are worth the extra money over the Carlton set I looked at.

The net was relatively easy to set up and I liked the fact it was set with steel poles. Doesn't mean it won't break if you manhandle it but certainly more durable than pvc.

By the way, I posted a bunch of pics so you can look at the parts.

Pros
- Decent quality that will make this set last
- Complete with 6 rackets and everything else you need

Cons
- Little tricky to get the net right. Best thing would be a permanent net with poles set in concrete. These poles are always a little tricky with the tension cords but once set up they should stand up through the summer if you wanted to.Setting it up a few times will make it easier though. Minus one star for that but all sets will have that flaw.

Final thoughts
He/She who finds a simpler solution to the netting gets 5 stars. Consider buying a separate net solution if you are looking for something more permanent but if that is the case I recommend spending the 200$ or so for a semi-pro setup anyways. For your run of the mill home use this is perfect. With so many rackets it is a good party set.
If you have the room in your yard or lots of wind interference consider buying a simplet Speedminton set. Tougher, faster game and loads of fund. Goes for 30$.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairly decent, but not "advanced", July 9, 2009

This review is from: Salaun Badminton Advanced Family Game Kit (Misc.)
I purchased the Salaun Badminton Advanced Family Game Kit in June.

It has been set up, taken down and set back up with ease. It was thoroughly used over the 4th of July weekend and withstood vigorous play to our satisfaction.

The kit comes with 4 full-sized rackets, 2 short-handled rackets, 3-pk shuttlecocks, breakdown-able poles, strings and stakes, as well as strings to mark the court area.

Rackets seem sturdy and quality-made. Birdies come apart with use and do occasionally find their way into the net. Net and poles could stay up well under most "windy" days, but not under a windy downpour of rain. Poles are rusting due to being left set up outside.

Is it better quality than what I could purchase at a local store? I don't know, but I do consider it worth the $50 I paid for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent set. Worth the extra $, July 3, 2009

We play hard enough that we've distorted (bent) racket heads and loosened the strings of a couple of sets (not goofing around, just hitting the birdie hard). This set has taken everything we've dished out.

The handle covers show no signs of wear and are comfortable; they seem like they'll hold up over the long haul.

Very nice set and well worth the extra money. The net / poles are cheap, but the rackets are excellent and worth the price alone.

The set came with everything I needed. Aside from the fact that the vinyl bag is tearing from the handles and the net being flimsy and unreliable. However, I'm able to work with everything the set came with quite well. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to begin playing badminton with a full set of racquets withbirdies and a net with boundaries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Badminton Set, July 10, 2009

This is a great badminton set. My 10 year old plays with the junior racket. The net was easy to set up, but is somewhat fragile- the net ripped when I was straightening the poles one day- just be careful with it.

It is important to consider that this is not a 200 set so the quality wont be as good. That being said, it a good amount of fun for little money. This badminton set was easy to get going with which is good because I dont like to read directions. The hardest part was figuring out the bounderies for bad mitten. The rackets are better quality than most cheapies, but the poles are not as sturdy as I would have liked but I used extra strings and stakes for support so it is not bad now.

For the price, I was expecting a little nicer qaulity on the poles. The rackets are great quality and justify the extra cost you will pay for this set. The birdies are very lite and do not fly very well, even in non-windy conditions. The set is very easy to put together. I had to get a little creative with how I tied the net to the poles. The poles are only supported by the guide lines to the ground and can easily be knocked over by a strong gust of wind. We haven't used the boundary markers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Set...Could Be Better, September 27, 2010

Firstly, this set is pretty good, I can't levy too many complaints for the price. Here they are:

1. You will have to create your own storage system if you want to quicky set up and tear down, you will have to buy some elastic quick ties for the yellow stake ropes and carefully fold (not roll) the tent. A 5-Star product would give clear instructions on how to quickly take down and store the net properly in the bag. With the current design, it's easy to waste 10 minutes undoing tangles before playing.

2. The shuttlecocks stink. This is an outdoor set which requires the red rubber tipped shuttlecocks bc with any slight breeze, the game is impossible to play as one person must absolutely crush the shuttlecock to get it across the net.

3. The poles should clip together. You place the poles in each other which is ok, but it would be easier if the poles linked together.

I am very well pleased at the quality of the items in this set. The racquets are very nice and the 2 short handle racquets are perfect for my 6 and 7 year old girls. We have had so much fun with it when camping and in our yard. The only negative about this product are the plastic stakes. I used railroad tie nails that were purchased at a home improvement store because the plastic ones wouldn't go into our Pennsylvania clay soil. Other than that, don't waste your money on a cheaper set that will fall apart. No need to buy anything more expensive either, unless vanity is your thing.

While looking for a Badmitten set for my grandchildren I found the price range to be quite wide. The reviews for the cheaper ones were mostly bad, but I did'nt want to spend $99. I decided to go for a mid-price one and found one with all good reviews. It turned out to be perfect. The set went up easily and seems to be holding up well. The rackets went through a rough week-end with my grandkids and we had no problems with any part of the set. At this point I recommend this game for anyone looking for their monies worth.
