I am an avid reader and love history. I mostly read for pleasure now and felt this book read like a history text. Well researched, but it took all I had in me to see it through. Maybe the holidays are too busy to concentrate this hard on a novel.

After reading the other titles from this author, I had great anticipation that "Salem" would be equally interesting. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth and realness I got from this book. It is well written and thoroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend it for historical buffs. This is the first review I've ever done, but I felt Scott deserved to be recognized as an exemplary author.

Sorry, couldn't read past the first page. Full of typos and misspellings which is the usual hazard when buying a vanity published book.

In many of the books I've read of this era, this one told me alot more then just a story.

Loved the story about the two families, but even more, what I learned of the founding of the Ma Bay Colony, especially Salem's role. It started out a bit slow. By half way through, I could not put it down. Keep reading!

This is a very well presented, written, and researched historical novel.

It starts with two families leaving England shortly after the Plymouth Colony was established, and tracks the relationship and feud between the various generations and descendants of these families as a basis to really look at the development of society, civilization and government in the new world. The story line is not closely focussed on the family feuds -- different events pop up in each successive generation -- but the sharper focus is on the events of historical development themselves.

Well researched history is brought to life through the microcosm of the lives of these two families and their associates. I am a bit of a history buff at times, and found many, many tidbits of new knowledge in this book. I'm also enough of an egg-head skeptic so that I did a bit of extra research at times during the reading to see if the book's positionings of events was historically accurate -- and they were.

Very well worth its price and the entertaining time spent reading it. As soon as I finished, I did a Kindle loan to a good friend with my strong recommendation that he read it because I know he'll enjoy it. I suspect you will too.

Although this book is historical fiction, it was an excellent source to learn more about life in the colonies. It moved well most of the time, and gave good insight into everyday life in colonial Mass.
