Book Description

1994
Many firms still aren't taking advantage of sales automation, despite the fact that new technologies can boost sales up to 30 percent. Now this practical, hands-on guide reveals the secrets of the process. Totally jargon-free, it shows how sales pros can use computers to gain more selling time - reduce costs, minimize paperwork (including call reports!), assure service continuity, improve presentations and integrate sales data into corporate information systems. And it suggests training ideas for reps who under-utilize technology. Packed with tips and checklists for selecting and using sales-related hardware and software, "Sales Force Automation" also highlights automation successes from several companies. Readers will appreciate the inclusion of actual computer output that illustrates several popular software packages.

More About the Author

I am married (twenty four years and counting!) and have two incredible sons. I'm an inveterate reader who is likely, at any given time, to be plowing through a mystery, some quirky piece of esoteric fiction, or a business book.

My sensibilities are firmly rooted in the 1960's. If I were stuck on a desert island with only the complete works of the Beatles to listen to, I'd be pretty content.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing great about this book, July 18, 1999

The regular stuff with no new technologies covered. No great mention about the impact of E-business and SFAs role in Ebusiness. Nothing visionary, the general SFA thoughts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Minor Classic, July 18, 2001

This review is from: Sales Force Automation: Using the Latest Technology to Make Your Sales Force More Competitive (Hardcover)
Of course, this book doesn't cover the Internet since it was written before the explosion of that particular phenomenon. (In fact, Colombo's newer book covers the Internet in depth.) What this book does cover is a process that companies can use to successfully implement what is now referred to as CRM technology. No question about the fact that some of this book is dated. Even so, many of the principles it outlines are still valid. Moreover, this book addresses the sorts of mistakes that companies are still making as they implement this kind of technology. Colombo's book is a minor classic. It may show its age in a few places, but it's remarkable how much he got right back in 1994!
