5.0 out of 5 stars excellent debut
saliva is now the new next big band and this is one hell of a start. josey scott has one beautiful voice. the music is quite mixed. mostly on the heavy side but there is a mix of styles from punk to metal and some rap/hip hop influenced metal but always melodic and always good. i think saliva truly stand on their own as far as style. nobody sounds like them and they...

3.0 out of 5 stars No Lead No Rock but...
No lead, oh that hurts; but these guys know how to make a song work. So, they get two stars for that. They get another star for originality---but I like the clean version. These tunes have a flow and they know when to pause and the drummer knows when things need to pick up and the vocals are harrowing. A solid effort but no lead, just metal-pedals and feedback-reverb...

4.0 out of 5 stars Talented and cool, May 14, 2000
This review is from: Saliva (Audio CD)
Upon first listening to this cd my first thought of Saliva was that they were just another generic alt/rock band in the vein of Buckcherry. However, after continuously listening to the cd over and over I concluded that I was dead wrong and that Saliva are an extremely talented and unique band with a very bright future.

The music is very straight-forward with solid work all on fronts, combining the drums, bass, and guitars into a well-oiled machine of music that is at times rock, alt, popcore, tripmetal, even some nu-metal. Never really that aggressive there is more of an emphasis on melody and catchy riffs that won't have the listener head-banging but just flowing with the music. Very engaging.

At first I thought the vocalist had a very annoying voice, and at times it still is, featuring a kind of nasal, higher pitched sound. Over time you find that the lead singer's voice as well as the backing vocals, though kind of annoying, actually complement the music. Lyrically the songs are straight-forward and kind of childish but feature memorable and cool choruses. Add some more depth to the vocals and more intelligent songwriting and this will definitely help improve this band. Where it is now though this is very good radio rock.

There are some really great songs on this cd, some very annoying songs and some that are just mediocre creating an album that is good. "Sand Castle" is the best song on the cd featuring a very cool melodic chorus and is a fusion of alt/rock and nu-metal. "Call it Something" is another good song with a memorable chorus and is more of a radio-friendly pop song, very mellow. "Beg" is kind of a nu-metal type song that starts the cd out on a good note. "Greater Than Less Than", "Cellophane", "Tongue", and "Pin Cushion" are all solid hard rock songs with melodic choruses and soothing music. Some of the other songs show promise but just don't have that special something to make them memorable.

With an upcoming major label debut on the horizon, Saliva has the talent to make it big in the music industry. Not really showcasing anything too unique or different, they combine enough different genres into a mix to create music finely tailored. Give them a few years and they will definitely improve. Check them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saliva - Memphis's Own, December 19, 1999

Hey guys, I talked with Josie last night and the frontman said they're signed with Al Geffen records. This CD is awesome, but it is about 3 years old. They have matured into something even better. The original drummer is gone...now Paul keeps the beat. You need to buy this record before there are no more left. After that, you'll have to "BEG" for a copy. This band will headline really soon. Real Rock from the SOUTH!

5.0 out of 5 stars About Time, December 9, 1999

I am really glad to see the light shining on this band. I also own a Blackbone CD, and think the music on both works is excellent. They both have the Monster Magnet banging Godsmack sound to them. I watched Chris Dabaldo start air guitar in the buckle of the Bible belt, and I am glad to see that he is doing so well. Hats off to the whole band. Modern-Immaturity/Blackbone/Saliva or whatever, good tunes at any rate.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great rock n roll record with a heavy approach!, July 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Saliva (Audio CD)
This record has the drive of a Monster Magnet record (POWERTRIP), the heaviness of HELMET, and a non stop flow of very well produced heavy rock/metal. This group needs to find a great producer, label, and promoter, and then the world will then take notice of what a great secret Memphis has been hiding.

This review is from: Saliva (Audio CD)
It is unbelievable that something this good can come out of Memphis! How the Majors haven't signed this yet is dumbfounding. If you get the chance to see them live....DO IT!!! before the ticket prices are way up in an arena.
