A unique and outstanding talent, April 14, 1999

Bill Bourne is a musical marvel. He is an outstanding guitar player and lyrist. His music is sensitive yet sophisticated, blending a number of very different styles into an eclectic offering that is simply impossible to adequately describe. Bill's initial recognition came as a member of a traditional group: Scotland's Tannahill Weavers. He then moved on to integrate his guitar with a superb bagpipe player, Alan ("Raven") MacLeod, to create a unique sound (think of Cajun with pipes instead of an accordion). Their album, "Dance and Celebrate" won a Canadian Juno Award for best Folk/Roots recording. Bill then did a couple of outstanding albums with a violinist, Shannon Johnson. Again, Bill presented a unique blend of sounds and solid lyrics. This is the latest of Bill's recordings and once again it is fresh and very satisfying. The only regret is that you have to contact him (http://www.deadtroll.com/bill/index.html) to get his other selections. I have them all and they are frequent gifts on special occasions. Clearly, a very special and satisfying talent indeed.

Great Guitar playing., February 28, 1999

There is only Bill playing the harmonica, the guitar, and foot stomp. If you haven't seen him perform, you will have trouble believing this. His singing voice is unusual and his style is close to Irish folk, but i think he will appeal to anyone who likes great guitar and folk music. He is On this recording, he reminds us of Greg Brown with a lot of Irish in his playing. Almost everything on the disk is his composition and that's good too.
