I have great respect for Salomon boots. My first pair of heavy duty Gortex Salomon's lasted 9 years...fantastic. Never had a blister and great support and stability! Used the boots on 8-10 mile dayhikes and backpacking small sections(25miles)of AT in GSMNP with my son. Purchased the 3-D Fastpacker for Father's Day to replace the well worn Salomons.
Super light weight, couldn't believe how light, since my New Balance running shoes weigh more. Tried the boots on two day hikes (should have quit at one). I am big guy at 2301bs, so for me...the 3D Fastpacker just flexed and twisted over every root (and acorn) in the trail and I was only carrying a daypack. To be fair, if you were lighter framed guy...say 180 pounds, they may have enough support. I also need "stability" and these boots allowed my foot to roll inward (under-pronate), causing lateral knee pain. Bottom line, they are super light, but there isn't enough support to really call it a "hiking boot".
