Climashield Upper for Cold and Wet Conditions

The Speedcross 3 CS features a mesh upper with waterproof Climashield lining for insulation when running in cold or wet conditions. The breathable mesh reduces heat and moisture inside your shoe while preventing debris from getting trapped between your foot and footbed.

Sensifit for Smooth Movement

Salomon's Sensifit technology cradles the upper instep, providing a precise and secure fit that promotes a natural rolling motion from heel to toe.

Mud and Snow Contagrip Outsole for Winter Weather

The Speedcross 3 CS's rugged mud and snow non-marking Contagrip outsole has a flexible chevron tread that improves grip on wet, muddy, or snowy trails. A mudguard runs along the base of shoe for protection against dampness.

OrthoLite Footbed Keeps Feet Comfortable

The OrthoLite footbed is designed with cushioning foam to reduce friction, keeping your feet comfortable as you run. EVA in the heel provides extra cushion for heel striking.

Quicklace System

The Speedcross 3 CS's minimalistic lacing system lets you tighten laces in one pull for a customized fit. A lace pocket keeps laces secure and out of your way.

I recently picked up a pair of these for running on the Appalachian Trail. I've gone through a few pairs of XA Ultras and loved every minute of them, but I wanted to see what the next level of specialization could provide. I really wanted to try some of those S-LAB shoes, but apparently Salomon has decided that those of us with size 13 feet aren't worthy of their efforts. Like many others, I'm lost somewhere in the transition to minimalism. I have a pair of NB MT10s but there's nowhere near enough armor on them to handle the AT. I figured this time I'd choose trail tech over heel drop for at least the winter and figure things out next spring.

First thing I noticed is that these felt a bit narrower than the XAs. A lot of people have reported not needing a break-in period, but that wasn't the case for me. It took about 50 miles for mine to loosen up and start feeling good. The Climashield does indeed run hot, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. The construction is excellent and well thought out. The terrain I run is pretty nasty and I've gotten my toes hooked under a few rocks and roots and there's been plenty of protection.

One of the main reasons I bought these was for the tread pattern. It's amazingly grippy on soft ground and makes running up earthy hills a blast. Works great on gravel too. Unfortunately, it starts to fail on larger rocks, especially downsloping slabs. Since the spikes keep surface contact to a minimum I end up sliding quite a bit, almost as if I were wearing golf cleats.

My biggest disappointment with these shoes has been the durability of the tread. After my first run - only 9 miles (Snicker's Gap - Buzzard Hill) - 4 or 5 of the perimeter spikes sheared completely off.

Bought these shoes specifically for racing in the Asics XTrail, a trail race which includes various conditions dirt, mud, streams, rocks, 854m summit then descent, etc. They performed perfectly in all conditions. My buddy was racing with Salomon XT Wings and in the steepest, muddiest climbs, my Speedcross would grip and stick where his foot would slide. Outstanding traction. Did not get wet until many miles and many puddles and mud holes, and even then stayed relatively dry. They did feel like they got a bit looser once wet and I could have stopped to tighten them up a bit. Not by much as I opted to keep racing and not stop with no problems, including a steep, fast and slippery descent. I experienced none of the inner soles problems mentioned by some, for which I was a bit aprehensive. My only worry would be for racing on hot days, for which I would recommend you do not buy the climashield (CS) but the regular Speedcross version, which I haven't tried. My feet stayed warm despite a start and summit below freezing. Perfect for Fall/Winter races. Also the lugs do wear a bit faster on asphalt, but then you should not be looking at Speedcross if you're looking for road racers. Very satisfied with my purchase.

I put many miles on in the back roads of North Dakota during the winter months. These shoes grip the road very well in snowy conditions and shield your feet from wind and moisture. The styling is cool too. Fit is a little snug in the toe-box area. I had to return my normal size 12 and get a 12 1/2. Now they fit great. Highly recommended.

They run a half size small. Mostly waterproof. But not fully waterproof. I do a lot of running on wet grass for work. The consistent water does wear through after a while.
Super light. Great construction. Decent traction, only issue was real smooth concrete or smooth stones.

These shoes work great. I have ran in snow, mud, cold weather, warm weather smooth terrain, and technical terrain. They are still great after 400 miles.Very comfortable shoe.

On the first trial run of these trail shoes, I had three 11 year old boys with me and two dogs. They wanted to play war in the woods, so we went for a walk...then we went off trail and up the side of very steep incline. I thought I would poop out and the kids would laugh at me. Well, right away I noticed that my traction seriously kept my energy focused into the climb, the boys were winded, and I was as well ahead of them, but the shoes were like 4-wheel drive traction and while the boys were losing traction...every step I took produced more climb... Another thing I noticed was my feet were dry in a elements sort of way, it was snowing and the ground was soggy...but the cold and wet never got to my feet. I had a pair of Merrel's but they are clearly outclassed by these shoes in weight, traction, and comfort. When I first pulled these out of the box I was sort of feeling ripped off and walked down to the corner store with them, I didn't like them...but all that changed when I took them into the trails. One last detail that I was shocked and overjoyed with was washing these shoes off. The mud just washed away without any hassle, they washed off like scuba diving fins (materially speaking). I am seriously impressed by these shoes. I no longer walk down to the store with them...too precious for that.

I love this shoe. Order one size larger because the toe box is narrow and small. Cushion of a ride.
