Breathable Mesh Upper and Lightweight Midsole

The XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 features a breathable mesh upper that reduces heat and moisture inside your shoes. A lightweight dual density midsole provides cushioning, stability, and motion control to help correct overpronation.

Sensifit for Smooth Movement

Salomon's Sensifit technology cradles the upper instep, providing a precise and secure fit that promotes natural rolling motion from heel to toe.

Rugged Outsole and 3D Chassis for Stability

The shoe's chevron Contagrip tread contains forefoot flex grooves and multidirectional lugs to provide traction when running on rough terrain, while the 3D advanced chassis between the midsole and outsole enhances stability by reducing ankle strain and controlling flex. A mudguard and rubber toe cap protect from dampness and add stability.

OrthoLite Footbed Keeps Feet Comfortable

The OrthoLite footbed is designed with cushioning foam to reduce friction, keeping your feet comfortable as you run. EVA in the heel provides extra cushion for heel striking.

Quicklace System for Optimal Fit

The XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 has an asymmetric lacing system that lets you tighten laces in one pull for a customized fit and a lace pocket to keep laces secure.

Four years ago when I started wearing Salomon shoes I thought they they were indestructible..... We purchased two pairs of the XA Pros this year and both pairs have had issues. The 1st pair, One of the eyelets pulled out when the draw string was pulled to tighten the laces and the second pair seems to have an issue with sole sliding against itself when you walk so the shoes squeak when you walk. I went from "This is the only brand of trail shoe I'll ever buy again" to "Don't think I'll buy these anymore"......sad.

I have 3 pairs of Salomon shoes. This shoe is outstanding. It fits well, easy on/off, stays on your foot, extremely comfortable, etc. One of the best shoes I have ever owned. However, Salomon's warranty is extremely concerning.

Salomon will not provide warranty coverage on an obvious factory defect, which is why i give a low score. I have a shoe that Salomon mislabeled with the wrong shoe size. Thus, I have shoes labeled Size 11, but one is actually Size 10.5 and 1/2 inch shorter than the other shoe. I am dumbfounded that Salomon won't fix this obvious factory error on a $130 shoe.

These are the best trail runners for the athlete with wide feet.

I run over 20 miles a week and have had these for one year. Doing the math that is about 1100 miles of wear.

Prior to these shoes I would lose toenails and not be able to walk several days after a huge hike. By huge hike I mean world class, power trail running, like rim to rim to rim Grand Canyon in 16 hours type of hikes. These shoes fit my wide feet perfect. Haven't lost a toenail or had any sore feet since finding these gems.

I've worn these shoes for just over one month and the left shoe is already coming apart on the right side by the ankle; it's fraying badly. I will contact Salomon to see if they will replace the shoes and update this review accordingly. On the positive side, they are very comfortable to wear.

Based on the great experience I had with the pair of these shoes I bought at EMS in June of 2011. In June of 2012, I ordered another pair through Amazon. I was as happy with this second pair as I was the first, until today. After approximately 2 months of wear, the inside upper of the left shoe has separated from the sole.

History: I'm a pretty avid hiker and outdoorsperson. Everything from car camping, backpacking 2-3wks, canoeing/kayaking and rock climbing. When I first started at age 12 or so, I wore boots. They never quite worked for me and I tried every pair I could get my hands on. Walmart $30 pair to $300 Italian made Scarpas. The last time I ever wore boots was at Philmont scout ranch when I was 16. Hiked 2miles in my Scarpas and had terrible blisters. I broke them in for months prior and thought it would be fine. Not so. I had no choice but to pull out my pair of well-worn Montrail runners I brought as camp shoes and toss the boots in my pack. What a difference!! My feet felt great and I could go for hours and hours without even thinking about them. Needless to say, it was a momentous turning point in my young outdoor life.

Review: After I destroyed the Montrails, I took a leap and bought a pair of early Saloman XA Pro GTX in 2002. I went everywhere with them: all up and down the East Coast, Uintas in Utah, Inca trail in Peru, trekking in Tibet and through the French and Swiss alps. All in varying weather conditions from the deep cold of winter to scorching heat of summer. They had never failed me. I wore those same shoes up until they literally split in half a few months ago. I still wear them to do yard work, patched with some vinyl/rubber glue. I love these shoes. I don't think I'll ever get rid of them, too many memories.

I finally brought myself to buy a new pair and decided to go non-GTX as my feet get hot and prefer the fast drying qualities of non-GTX shoes. I normally wear 10 1/2 to 11 and these are 11 which fit great. I wear Smartwool trail running socks w/out a liner and they are a perfect fit.

I was looking forward to my second pair of these after 2 years wearing the XA's. Huge disappointment for this year's model. They were uncomfortable from day 1, hurting my feet immediately. I don't know how they could have screwed up a good shoe so bad. I guess a company thinks that if they put out a good product one year, they will suck in the public after some good reviews. It's like thet were cutting the quality to save money, making up for past year's. Never will buy a Solomon product again.
