This shoe is robust. Many comments here say it fits larger than most, I disagree. The shoe is "larger" than a comparably size shoe, but the inside fit is the same. I am size 13 US for running and athletic shoes, and Salomon fits comparably. But, when you take this shoe out of the box, you will say...holy cow, that is big. In any event, I bought this shoe specifically to slosh around in the snow and mud during winter and spring.

If you are coming from the world of minimalist running or even if you are used to regular running shoes, this Salomon is initially going to feel more like a boot than a shoe. The shoe has a lot going on underneath foot and is relatively stiff, at least, initially. So the shoe is going to feel tight and stiff, but that is a good thing for beginning trail running.

I would still characterize this shoe as a running shoe. It is more comfortable to run in this shoe than to walk. When you walk in this shoe, the top of the heel tends to dig into your achilles tendon; but when you run, that doesn't happen.

    Pros:
    Weather proof
    Convenient lacing system
Stiff and well padded for technical trail running
    Reasonable price

    Cons:
Heel fits a little loose (beware of possible blister until broken in)
Not suited for hard surface running
Can be uncomfortable to walk in for long periods of time (better to run in).

Order a .5 size under what you usually wear and you will be happy, these shoes run bigger than advertised. I made the mistake of ordering my size and played the return game with Amazon only to eventually buy them in a store where I could try them on. Aside from the sizing issues there are great shoes (so far, can't speak to any real durability issues yet) They are good for trail running, but be ready for an adjustment if you're used to light weight runners- these shoes are heavy, but we're working out so that's OK! they are very stable and grippy on a variety of surfaces, however they are designed, even low top models offer me and my weak ankles a lot support and confidence. I wore these shoes on a hiking trip and we git rained on BAD, my feet stayed dry, honestly. I'm skeptical of "waterproof" but these are very, very water resistant at least. Definitely fork over the extra money for models with "Clima shield"- dry feet are happy feet. I have had a little seperation between the soles already but only minimal and nothing that shoe goo can't fix quick.

Every winter I buy a pair of Gore-Tex trail running shoes, which receive primary use during the winter months, but occasional use during wet weather in the warmer months. For the last few years I have run in La Sportiva Wildcats, but this time decided to go with something a little more heavy duty. I have not looked up the weight of either brand, but the Salomon's certainly feel heavier and clunkier, as is to be expected with a more heavy duty shoe. They have done their job well and show very little wear after a winter of use. They do fit slightly different than the Wildcat's, with a narrower toe box and wider heel. The trails that I run are fairly well groomed, and as such these shoes are bordering on overkill. In the final analysis I think that for me these shoes are better suited to fast light hiking rather than running. Next year I'll either go back to the Wildcat's or check out a lighter Salomon Gore-Tex shoe.

I bought the XA PRO 3D Ultra 2 CS to wear playing disc golf. Regular tennis shoes can't handle the abuse and hiking boots are too bulky. I'm convinced these are the best shoe on the market for disc golf. You get the comfort and agility of a tennis shoe with a durable sole and waterproofing ability of a hiker.

This is about my 10th pair and they are still the most durable and stable shoes I have ever worn. Good in bad weather too.

This is definitely my go-to trail running and light hiking shoe. I have gone through 4 pairs over the years and keep coming back to the same model. These shoes offer incredible durability and great support over uneven terrain. Given that I train in the pacific northwest, I prefer the waterproof versions which keeps my feet much dryer through rain puddles and mud encountered on the trail.

My shoe size is 10 , but last salomon I bought were too tight on size 10 , so as a precaution I ordered size 10,5 . Well , It looks like either the former ones were too small for 10 , or these ones are too large for 10,5

...just in case they stop making them for some insane reason.

I have wide feet, and the adjustable fit due to the lacing system works perfectly. Really comfortable, too- the last few days have been well above 90F, and my feet don't come out of them soaking wet.

I cannot overstate how pleased I am with these shoes.
