4.0 out of 5 stars Technology Gold. Durable and sturdy. Great trail shoe for pronators.
I'll keep this one short. I've reviewed several trail shoes on this site and each has its pros and cons. The Salomon XT Wing is perhaps the most technologically advanced shoe I've every worn. It has stability control, traction control, a durable upper, a comfortable midsole, great handling on any terrain. I recommend it for anyone who is a larger runner and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great look, very durable, but lots of hot spots
I was impressed with these shoes as they felt very durable (but light) and looked pretty sharp. Unfortunately, they caused a ton of blisters for me (I have a normal foot, not an over/under pronator) and I had to return them.

As comfort/fit is by far the most important factor in a shoe, I can't recommend these; but everyone's feet are different...

I recommend it for anyone who is a larger runner and overpronators. I would also recommend it for ultramarathons. I've run three ultras in these bad boys and never missed a step. Okay, for the cons: the lace cables did break on me once, so I recommend buying a lace kit so that you can replace them if they get frayed. Also, PLEASE make sure that you read the instructions on how to lace them properly because I almost cracked my skull open when I tripped on the cable loop after improperly tying them. Otherwise, outstanding product.

5.0 out of 5 stars elite tech running trail shoe, December 25, 2009
By

I owned a couple of other trail running shoes before, but got to say this is the most high tech one. What interests me about these shoes are the fact they are as comfortable as tennis or running shoe. Two, I live in the Northwest and at time do wondering into the forest now and then. What actually caught my eye was the nifty color scheme orange and black then the cable shoe laces. This looks good, I seen a NorthFace with the twist lock, but that is bulky. I never own Salomon's shoe before, but do own some of their snowboarding equipments and got to say they are a specialty company.

Features:
Well I am using this in the snow for the time being because it is gore-tex to keep out the water. It isn't the warmest, but it you wear thinker sock then it is fine and it keep water out and heat in like most Gore-tex product. This shoe has more stability (AC Skeleton and Muscle) then Teva Men's Aniso Event Waterproof Breathable Trail Shoe, but the Teva might be a little more comfortable, but not by much. The Teva's rubber sole grip on the bottom is already worn down in less the half a year. I hope this "Contagrip" last a little longer. Both have OrthoLite insole. Most shoes are narrow so I have to get a half a size larger, but not for this XT Wing, it has a wider base. This way better than any Adidas trail shoe I every own like:adidas Men's AS 1 Trail Running Shoe

I got to say this is one of the best looking/ designed shoe I got in a while, plus it is loaded with hiking trail technologies and did I say it is one of the most comfortable shoes I worn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great shoes, June 12, 2010

First I recommend trying on some Salomons at your local R.E.I. or hiking store to find out what your shoe size actually is then buy the shoes you want online. I bought these shoes for regular mountain hikes that I will be taking this summer. On the hikes I've been on so far these shoes have been better then anything else I've tried. The other people I hike with that have been hiking every weekday for 4 years say Salomon are the only shoes that last a decent amount of time. I also have a pair of Salomon snow shoes that are the best I've ever had.

I've been wearing these pair of shoes, for just one month but i could say the same just the day i took them out the box, they're the best, i'm a cross trainning person, doing diferent kind of workout such as speed skating, running usually off road, mountain bike, hiking kayakin, also im as many people pronator, i've found these shoes just perfect for all my activities, the fit perfect in cushioning and support, they could be describe as an all terrain shoes, not just for off-road work, but everything, everywhere...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fit, light, and quick to lace up., August 15, 2011
The main advantage of these shoes is the fit. Too many athletic shoes are cut wide these days. But aren't most fit runners relatively thin with slightly narrow feet, or at least narrow heels? I'm always frustrated with how wide most shoes have gotten over the past 20 years. Back in 1960's the average width of men's shoes was "C" whereas now its "D" Fortunately these are cut in about a C+ width. They're particularly snug in the heel while a little wider, relatively, in the forefoot so your toes aren't crunched together too much. The length may be about 1/4 size short. Cushioning is good. Uppers are light...ideal for warmer climates. I'm sure they'd leak a fair amount in wet conditions, unless you get the Goretex model. Only drawback I've seen is that the sides of the sole are kinda wide and sharp, ie. without rounded edges, so they tend to catch and twist your foot sideways when steping on angled rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for hiking, January 2, 2011

I love this pair of shoes. I bought them for hiking. I hate when my feet get all sweaty so I didn't want to buy typical hiking boots. These do not make my feet sweaty at all. They look nice, have great grip, easy to tie (make sure you tuck in the tie cord into the tongue of the shoe), and well made. This is the first pair of Solomon shoes and I'm sure it won't be my last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazed!, November 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This brand of shoes was recommended to me by a friend that runs alot and spend quite a bit of time camping and hiking. WOW!!! am I impressed! They are awesome. Comfortable, nice looking and sturdy. I have received several comments/compliments from friends and strangers saying what nice looking shoes they are. Best of all, I happen to wear them while flying to Las Vegas recently and they were the perfect shoe for the airport, when you have to remove and have your shoes scanned. Everyone else had to sit and spend a few minutes putting their shoes back on and tying them. I slipped mine on, cinched up the lace and was outta there! I love these shoes.
