This is not a simple thing to use and get right and it also takes a bit of time. Lisa Cretton  |  25 reviewers made a similar statement
Me and my grandaughter tried to use it, but the design would not even transfer onto the stamper. Linda M. Rhodes  |  25 reviewers made a similar statement
The stamper does not work very well and the scraper takes off all the polish on the round metal part. Roberta Hornwood  |  20 reviewers made a similar statement

4.0 out of 5 stars Practice Makes Perfect December 31, 2011
By CW
I had seen the commercials for this product on TV and was skeptical since it seems that 99% of the 'seen on TV' products do not work. But when I found this kit at Bed Bath and Beyond for $10 I thought, why not.
Let me say that I had never done nail stamping before and had never heard of Konad.

My set came with the 5 plates shown but from reading reviews in various places online, there seems to be a lot of variety.

I have purchased thousands of products over the years that come with protective film on them so I immediately recognized it for what it was and peeled off the blue plastic film on all my plates.

Of course you are excited to play with your new toy and want to try out the coolest design first....and it doesn't come out perfect and you are disappointed.

So here are some tips that I recommend (from personal experience)

*Peel off the film! Metal plates are shiny and silver not dull and blue
*For your first couple times, pick a simple, basic design like heart or a star, nothing with lots of fine lines. You want to get a feel for the technique before you start working with detail.
*Throw away the scraper! It will scratch up your plates and doesn't remove the polish evenly. Use an old gift card instead. It gives a cleaner swipe, is easy to clean up and doesn't damage your plates.
*Use thick polish, usually the ones with glitter or shimmer are thicker (because they need to keep the shiny stuff suspended in the liquid) but I also have some very old polish (we are talking about 10-12 years old) that has thickened a bit so it works great too.
*Usually 1 swipe with the gift card will remove enough of the polish but if you see a lot of polish on the smooth surface of the plate, swipe again in a perpendicular motion.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Disagree November 29, 2011
I just received this in the mail today. After reading the reviews I was ready to send it back! I read all of the directions VERY carefully. I removed the blue film on both sides of the disc. I filed both sides of the stamper with a relatively coarse file (it still felt completely smooth). When I finished all of the steps...lo and behold...IT WORKED!!! My biggest regret is that I didn't order the extra accessory set with the extra discs and case. I also can't find another way to order the accessory set. If anyone knows how...please let me know. Back to happily stamping. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Remove blue film from disc! November 13, 2011
Works great but you must remove the blue film on the discs. This is not in the directions so we had a hard time with it at first until we realized the film had to be removed.

3.0 out of 5 stars My thoughts on Salon Express December 17, 2011
I purchased mine at Sally Beauty Supply a few days ago, just to see if this nail stamping thing is for me. The express part of the product isn't very accurate. It does take practice to make perfect, the right polish, and patience. I will give you some tips and a how-to.

1. Please remove the blue sticker from the front (where the stencil is)
2. Place into the holder
3. File the stamper pad with a nail file and wipe clean with a cotton ball soaked in acetone
4. Apply polish (not a thin polish) to the stencil.
5. Scrape away the excess
6. Roll the stamper onto the stencil and look at the pad to make sure there is no excess product around the pattern. If there is, remove it.
7 A VOLUNTARY step, but I do this: Roll the stamper on a piece of newspaper to make sure it will transfer correctly. Repeat step 6.
8. Put one side of the stamper onto the nail
9. Roll with even pressure from one side to the next
10. Lift the stamper and clean off the plate, stamper and scraper.

I've used it a few times, and I'm still acclimating to stamping. The worst thing about this product is the stamper is fat, instead of slender or tapered. Check the photos for photos of my recent nail art and the kit itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good product with practice February 6, 2012
By Kitty
I've been stamping using various brands for quite a while but decided to pick up this set from Sally's when I noticed it had a turtle image. This stamps just as well as my konad plates at a fraction of the cost so I'm very happy with this product. While I was reading reviews for this I noticed a lot of people had given it a negative review because they couldn't get it to work so here are some tips to hopefully help you if you are considering trying (or tossing) it out.

1) Remove plastic film from plates and clean with nail polish remover to remove any residue.
2) If you are using a regular nail polish with these plates I highly recommend running the coarse side of a normal nail file over the stamper first. You literally only need 3 or 4 light swipes.
3) If you are having problems with the scraper use an old credit or gift card to scrape the excess polish off your plates. Just make sure it's something you don't mind ruining because nail polish remover will remove the magnetic strip.
4) Not every nail polish will work for stamping, you will have to experiment with the ones you own to find what works best for you. In order to get a clear image you need a thicker more opaque nail polish. Konad special polish is made especially for stamping so it's thicker and doesn't dry as fast, so that works best for me. However, they are slightly pricey so I've also found some cheaper alternatives with wetnwild's black creme and sally hansen's insta-dry in silver sweep.
5) Stamping is messy. Be sure to have a full strength nail polish remover or acetone on hand with plenty of cotton pads or wipes to clean your surface, plates and scraper. A clean scraper and plate will yield better results.
6) Work fast.
