5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing for my hair, April 12, 2006

I have been using Controlled Substance from Salon Selectives since it first came out (about five years), and I refuse to use any other putty or pomade. It's the only thing that works for my hair (fine and short), and everything else I've tried when I couldn't get this product has disappointed.

Someone told me this was going to be discontinued, and that saddens me. Hopefully some manufacturing plant buys the rights and continues to reproduce it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best hair product on the market, January 19, 2006

This review is from: Salon Selectives Control[d] Substance Molding Putty for Short or Thick Hair - 2.25oz. (Health and Beauty)
I have been using this product for years. I first bought it when I had short hair (it says on the container that it is ideal for short hair) - but now that I have long hair, I think they should market it for long hair too. This product is amazing. it instantly adds body to hair while making it more manageable. It is never sticky, never stiff and you can run your fingers through hair that feels like natural hair - and it never flakes. My boyfriend uses this product now, too. I'm convinced that anyone who tries this will love it. Unfortunately the stores in my area stopped carrying it, so I have to buy online. I hope that it doesn't go off the market.

I have been using Salon Selectives Control[d]Substance Molding Putty for a few years now. It is the best putty I've used for my short hair style.. Hold it firm but soft. Tried others but not the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some things are easy to get your hands on, January 9, 2006

I am a hair product hoarder. I have tried every brand of pomade available in Richmond, VA. This is the ONLY one, out of the 30+ brands I've tried, that I like. I don't just like this pomade, I swear by it! It smells awesome, it has a great texture that dries clear and isn't greasy. It holds strong, but is totally moldable. The best part? It could NOT be easier to get out of your hair. You can literally rinse this product out of your hair! No soaking in shampoo like with spiking glue. I can't say enough good things about it. Buy it! You'll love it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Discontinued! Was best hair putty period! What's a good alternative?, August 1, 2011
This review is from: Salon Selectives Control[d] Substance Molding Putty for Short or Thick Hair - 2.25oz. (Health and Beauty)
I used this for a good 5 years before one day being shocked to find out that it's been discontinued. I used to get them at Walmart for $3 a pop. It was not only cheap but the product was absolutely wonderful. It had a pleasant fruity melon smell, it went on with minimal water, dried nicely, held nicely, did not flake, did not have the greasy, sticky feeling like other putties, and washed out completely with just water, again no shampoo/soap required to get the greasy feeling out from other products.

If anyone can recommend a similar product, please let me know!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars best hair product, December 20, 2010
This review is from: Salon Selectives Control[d] Substance Molding Putty for Short or Thick Hair - 2.25oz. (Health and Beauty)
This putty was one-of-a-kind. Why is it that every product that I grow to love, whether for the hair or otherwise, always get discontinued or re-fabricated somehow to suck? Can anyone recommend a decent substitute?

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ever...., November 2, 2006
This review is from: Salon Selectives Control[d] Substance Molding Putty for Short or Thick Hair - 2.25oz. (Health and Beauty)
I disagree, the "Dove" pomade product is not the same nor similar, it leaves a greasy feel. Anyhow, I miss this product and been looking everywhere, I too hate the wet greasy look, the only thing that has come close is "KMS Hair Play Molding Paste" and "Beyond the Zone's Super Sexy Styling Sauce" but these products eventually get on my nerve...
So where can I find Salon Selectives Substance Putty besides ebay???

5.0 out of 5 stars substitute for this product, October 14, 2006
This review is from: Salon Selectives Control[d] Substance Molding Putty for Short or Thick Hair - 2.25oz. (Health and Beauty)
Dove Defined Texture Molding Cream is exactly the same as this product and much easier to find. It's also about the same price, unlike the higher end version Redken Rewind.

5.0 out of 5 stars The worst news ever!!, September 30, 2006
This review is from: Salon Selectives Control[d] Substance Molding Putty for Short or Thick Hair - 2.25oz. (Health and Beauty)
This sucks!! My mother AND girlfriend are both cosmetologist so I have access to any and all brands sculpting goo. I've tried so many products it's ridiculous and none of them hold up to this 3.99 product. I guess they marketed it in the worst ways cause no one I told that asked what I used to spike my hair never heard of it. I hate the wet grease look but the thing about this product you can have it wet or dry.. just adjust the dampness of hair before applying.

Better buy all you can now!
