Cosmetology Instruction for Black Women,
By "divastate" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SalonOvations' Beautiful Black Styles (Hardcover)
Have you ever wondered where Salon stylists learn various techniques- cutting hair, chemical relaxers, weaves, washing hair, protein conditioners, moisturizers, and pressing? Though the beauty of black women is highly emphasized by natural hair- women who do want to relax seriously need to invest in a book of this type. Precautionary guidelines and professional advice are given for blowdrying, thermal pressing, marcel irons, and chemical services (relaxers, dyes, curly perms). This book is more of a beautician school instruction book with step by step guidelines which are well detailed and easy for a novice to follow- AND may give you guidelines to know if your beautician is really doing things correctly (spot tests, checking your scalp condition, being attentive to your personal hair care needs). If you don't relax or press your hair this book may not prove to be much help but women who do- this is a resource that the health of your hair and scalp could truely benefit from. Well written, nice pictures, thorough glossary, but its the size of a thick magazine- not a huge resource guide which you might expect.
