I have to disagree with the other reviewer. Firstly it is about dance rather than music and secondly, if the first reviewer read more than an extract he would realize Pietrobruno credits Puerto Ricans. This is a useful book for anybody interested in the cultural influence of salsa.

I had the misfortune to read an excerpt of Ms. Pietrobruno's book. To be succinct: Ms. Pietrobruno was biased to say the least when you stated that Puerto Rican musicians "lacked creativity" and were not responsible for Salsa's evolution that took place in the 60's/70's. Ms. Pietrobruno w/a name like that, you shouldn't be allowed to write about elevator music, much less...
