5.0 out of 5 stars Thaw out the ice princess
The only reason im doing this is because i am so grateful that in this world where music is lost, there is an artist like Ms Wright who has shared herself with us. I heard this album on amazon ad i was immediately taken. I got it and i am still in love with it 3 yrs after its release. I used to hate jazz and now thanks to Wright, i am a fanatic, her music is so inspiring...

I love the soulful voice of the artist but this cd did not impress in the way her last 2 have.

The songs speak of life and love, both in its extremes and yet expressing its simplicity. I am all thawed out by Ms.Wright's music and if you too have ice bars around your ears and heart than you need TO THAW OUT TOO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets better with every listening..., October 27, 2004

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
I bought this CD based on the reviews and the sample listening from Amazon. It didn't capture me immediately until one day I was driving and playing it in the car. The longer and more I listen to the CD the more I became captivated by her singing voice and the material she chose. I recommended it to my co-worker and she fell in love with Ms Wright right away (unlike me...). This is a great start from a young singer. I am waiting for Ms Wright to shine bright for as long as she can sing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eternity, October 11, 2004
By
This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
This is a great debut by a very strong vocalist. Somewhere between r&b & jazz, Lizz Wright has a gorgeous voice with a clear pitch and resonance. The spiritual track is exceptional. The traditional "Walk With Me" has great percussion by Jeff Haynes on tablas and Lizz's strong vocals soaring over the jazz riffs John Hart's guitar & Doug Weiss's acoustic bass. On Wright's own "Eternity," she writes a track that builds exquisitely, "I will find the answer & the answer is you, my love, I have to have you for eternity." On "Fire" Kenny Banks' Hammond B3 sets the stage for Lizz's aching vocal and her self-penned lyric, "Are you frightened by the fire in my eyes? It burns for you; and I know you see it too, your heart was open looking for light." Lizz Wright's CD is a wonderful beginning from this obviously talented future star! Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Men cry in the dark, but I cried in my office (by myself)., July 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
I heard Lizz Wright's "Soon As I Get Home" on the car stereo. Of course I would catch the last 30 seconds of the song, but it was enough to catch my interest. I reached for a piece of paper and pen to write the name of the artist singing. I forgot all about it. About a month or so I was cleaning out my car and I came upon the piece of paper I had written on. I decided to get on the internet and purchase the CD. I didn't care what the CD sounded like, I simply liked what I heard. I'm what you would call a music freak. I don't do popular music that often. A knock was on my office door. Why, it was the delivery man delivering my CD. I ripped it open and popped it the CD player. The first note I heard, I paused. My ears was getting a massage of its life. The voice was so hauntly beautiful, it felt like I saw an old, good friend or loved one. When I heard "Soon As I Get Home" my eyes welled up. So, here I am in my office welling up thinking, "Where have you been,I miss you". I listened about 5 more times, tears streaming and shaking my head. Overall, this is a beautiful CD. Although this is her first CD, she has room for improvement. Don't compare Lizz Wright to Norah Jones. They have two totally different voices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
Lizz Wright's debut is so great. I am extremely impressed with this woman, especially seeing as she is only 24 years old. Her voice sounds ages older and has the sophistication to boot. This cd is so relaxing you just put it on and you are instantly transported to a world of utter and complete calmness. She also has some more up tempo songs, like Salt and Open Your Eyes You Can Fly, that seem to just lift the spirits. I think that my favorite would have to be Vocalise/End of the Line an extraordinary Nina Simone remake that Lizz sings with so much emotion it's crazy! This is serious music that those who appreciate real music will be sure to enjoy for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL MUSIC !!, March 19, 2004
By
This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
I bought this CD out of curiosity,I read an article about Lizz Wright, and decided to give it a try. It's rare these days to buy a cd and be BLOWN away.In my opinion, the current state of the music industry is rather sad. It's also sad when an artist debuts a CD,that they always have to be compared to another artist.Of course there will be some similarities, but a "true" artist will have their own vibe, that "IT " that seperates them from the rest of the pack.Lizz Wright has "IT".It's amazing when you listen to an artist that will make you believe in the power of music, that will make you realize that there are still artist out there with vision and integrity. The music speaks for itself loud and clear. The tracks " Eternity" and "Vocalise/End of the Line" are incredible. That in no way means that the other songs on the cd aren't great, those happen to be my 2 personal favorites.I have shared this CD with friends and family members and they all love it.If you like to listen to music that will move you,you need to buy this CD.I will not compare her to Norah Jones,Oleta Adams,Donny Hathaway,or any other artist for that matter.Lizz Wright is doing her own thing and doing it quite well. This CD is a must have for those searching for music that touches the soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT Future!, September 11, 2003

This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
This is a VOICE!!! And she uses it beautifully. Lizz Wright knows what she can sing. "Open Your Eyes" is probably my least favored cut, only because she just doesn't match the fire of Flora Purim's original, yet it is very good. After that, it's all up! She totally wins me over with her sparkling rendition of "Soon As I Get Home" from the original Broadway version of "The Wiz". This song (and show) is special to me as Stephanie Mills' voice glistened throughout. As it is always hard to NOT compare a cover of a song that you hold dear- Lizz Wright tears it up! She gives it her own feel and delivery. I LOVE her version! The rest of the CD is just fabulous. Norah Jones has nothing on her, I only hope the Lizz Wright can get the play!

4.0 out of 5 stars What a way to debut, November 3, 2005
This review is from: Salt (Audio CD)
Lizz Wright...what a way to debut! I love the clarity and quality of her voice. It's so refreshing to listen to a new vocalist and know that diction is as important as style & phrasing.

WALK WITH ME, LORD is my favorite on this CD. I found myself replaying this song several times just to study her style and arrangement. The musicianship and mixing on the entire CD speak for themselves.

I would encourage Jazz lovers to add this one to your collection and support an awesome new artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahh...Lizz's Voice, August 21, 2004

Ahh...Lizz's voice...It's purely wonderful. She has a strong, full-bodied voice and her style and method of singing is mature. Her voice/this cd takes your emotions on a wonderful journey. I think "Salt" is my favorite song. Whenever I feel a little run down I listen to Lizz's "Salt" or Dianne Reeves song "Testify" ( from the cd "In The Moment"). Salt lifts and strengthens my spirit and Testify calms it. As soon as Lizz comes to my town on tour I'm getting tickets to her concert!
