5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing since sliced bread
I am something of a purist when it comes to being able to season food while eating in a restaurant. I thrive on hot/spicy food, the hotter the better. I found a condiment, Hot Shot by McCormick spices, that is a combination of ground red and black peppers. I checked around local stores, and even ordered a camping spice shaker made by Coleman, which I found...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this item!
The concept is nice, but the delivery is way off!

1) Most of the pepper will spill out of its compartment and into the lid. Thus, when you open up the lid, you simply have a capful of pepper. Way too much for the food you are looking to season.

2) The salt side has the same defect...most of the salt will spill from its container into the lid...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing since sliced bread, November 3, 2010

I am something of a purist when it comes to being able to season food while eating in a restaurant. I thrive on hot/spicy food, the hotter the better. I found a condiment, Hot Shot by McCormick spices, that is a combination of ground red and black peppers. I checked around local stores, and even ordered a camping spice shaker made by Coleman, which I found unsatisfactory. I finaly hit on this GSI item and I am delighted. It is solid/sturdy, has substantial screw-on lids that will not be easily loosened if carrying in one's pocket. I have given several to friends - they are impressed as well. So, for the diner who likes to add zest to one's meal, and carries along the McCormick product Hot Shot, it is an ideal solution to what can be a thorny problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a good salt and pepper shaker for camp, December 3, 2010
This review is from: Salt and Pepper Shaker by GSI Outdoors (Misc.)
I've owned some really bad salt and pepper shakers made for camping, and this is not one of them. The search stops here. First of all, I could throw this as hard as I can against a tree and nothing would happen to it. It's very easy to fill, the caps don't unscrew themselves, and it doesn't pour out too much or too little of either salt or pepper. I take that back. It's easy to control how much salt comes out and you can easily get a large amount of pepper to come out. There's a lot of holes and a lot of surface area. My arm would practically fall off trying to get pepper out of the several others I've tried. Just buy it. It probably holds a heaping tabelspoon of both salt and pepper each.

I got this for when me and my wife go backpacking. Great little kitchen tool to keep a decent amount of salt and pepper. For when you want to add that extra taste to your eggs or other meals. If you think you will use it, you will love it. And it's very small. Be careful with not loosing it.

Nice portable salt / pepper shaker for camping, picnics, or the office. The pepper compartment is a little smaller than the salt compartment, and the lids don't have flaps-- you have to screw them off to use one side. I'm guessing this makes it more waterproof, but it also means you have to screw that lid back on before you can use the other side. Since I don't really care about a perfect seal, I would prefer flaps, but overall I'm still happy with the purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this item!, June 15, 2011

The concept is nice, but the delivery is way off!

1) Most of the pepper will spill out of its compartment and into the lid. Thus, when you open up the lid, you simply have a capful of pepper. Way too much for the food you are looking to season.

2) The salt side has the same defect...most of the salt will spill from its container into the lid. When you open the lid, you have way too much salt in the cap.

It you travel, this salt and pepper shaker will inevitably bump around and you are sure to experience this spill-out phenomena.

I wrote to the company about this situation several weeks ago and they did not respond.

I got this for my desk at work, and I love it. It's small, easy to fill and has a nice design.

The only minor problem is there is a small gap between the holes of the shaker and the cap, so salt and pepper leak out when opening the cap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Sensa, November 19, 2010

I bought this to carry Sensa around so I always have it when I go out to eat. The pepper side has less capacity than the salt side, but that's ok. Since Sensa is Salty & Sweet, I just use the salt side for Salty and the Pepper side for Sweet. The Sensa is very fine though and it comes out real fast from this shaker. I just put my finger over the openings to regulate the flow. It works great. The shaker is 2 1/2 inches tall. Salt side is 1 1/2" Pepper side is 1".

5.0 out of 5 stars Also makes a great pill holder!, September 6, 2011

I use one of these for camping salt and pepper. I also use one for keeping a week's worth of meds. If you take off the small removable "strainer" pieces the container can then store pills. White cap side for morning, black cap side for evening. Sure beats those flimsy plastic drug store pill holders that come open too easily and wear out quickly. High quality, strong, and waterproof. Neat product!
