1.) Plastic wheel rims are not made out of proper materials for cold weather. They are very brittle and break with very slight side impact. I own a snow removal company and have two of these units for two seasons. I have already had to replace one wheel 2x and two others once. The first two I blamed on my employees not being careful removing them and putting them back into the beds of my plow trucks. This last storm I realized it doesn't take much to break these rims. I was being careful pl;acing it into the bed and because I lay it on its side to allow better vision out the rear window of the cab I set it in the bed slowly and because of the angle one of the wheels hit first cracking the rim. I am being honest...I did not drop it just placed it in there and heard the crack. Could not believe my eyes when I saw it had broken. Buyers needs to make these out of a better plastic material that is not brittle or prone to breaking.
2.) External gear drive: PROS: When it locks up or sticks you can get to it and spray it with lubricant to get it going again because everything is exposed. CONS: Everything is exposed and the spacers and bushings around the steel gears are plastic. The problem here again is the use of incorrect materials. The spacers and bushings should be stainless steel because the plastic parts wear out quickly which create slop or extra space causing the gears to not mesh correctly. The result is binding up of the gears and eventually the wheel that drives the gears locks up and just slides across the ice or snow. You can add washers as spacers to make it work again however over time it will always lock up again.Read more ›

All stainless steel frame . Unit is very well built, The only negative is the open gears make it a little hard to push. But it does work good if you dont mind pushing. Read morePublished 2 months ago by John S.
So far it has worked out well but can only use rock salt. Sand has to be totally dry. Easy to put together and well made.Published 15 months ago by Lynette A. Cash
