4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Scale for Multiple Uses
This sturdy little kitchen scale has served us well. It has reasonably high accuracy for the price, can weigh up to 11lbs+, and has a very small footprint. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great Scale, but it broke
The glass didn't break like some other folks mentioned, but the crescent-shaped front section (with the read out and the buttons) came loose and just broke off. Too bad, because otherwise, it's great - accurate and consistent.
It was past 30 days, so I couldn't return it to Amazon. But once I finally found the corporate site (www.salterhousewares.com), I was able...

This sturdy little kitchen scale has served us well. It has reasonably high accuracy for the price, can weigh up to 11lbs+, and has a very small footprint. The batteries (two watch batteries included) last years on end without replacement. The glass surface is very tough and cleans easily. The large, flat surface allows for using tares (containers, which the scale can be reset to zero when loaded with) in measuring, also further extending the scales usefulness.

The scale also doubles as a postage scale in our household. The scale is sensitive enough to ensure small envelopes can be mailed with a single stamp and has the capacity to weigh small to medium parcels.

While at least one other reviewer has broken the glass, we found the glass to be very tough, surviving years of abuse. However, recently, a porcelain coffee cup dropped onto it from a high shelf seemingly ended it's life. The glass survived the scratch without a scratch (while the cup shattered to bits). Sadly, the strain gages seemed to have gone bad. Honestly, though, we'll replace it with the exact same model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attractive, highly accurate, super easy to use scale, July 31, 2005

This review is from: Salter Digital Scale, Glass with Silver accents (Kitchen)
I've used this scale for a short time, but already find it essential equipment in my kitchen. Attractively sytled, very easy to operate, converts instantly between grams and ounces at the touch of a button, zeros out for incremental measurement (again, at the touch of a button) -- there's nothing I dislike about this great device. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars most convienent scale I ever owned, April 16, 2006
This review is from: Salter Digital Scale, Glass with Silver accents (Kitchen)
I love this scale. Especially how I can put a bowl, measuring cup or whatever and on it and then hit the zero button. Then when I add ingredients I don't have to subtract the container weight. I can add successive ingredients and hit the zero button each time. The large surface area handles most containers. It is smaller and lighter than I expected and stores easily in the cupboard on it's side. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I am not sure of the accuracy for low weights. Sometimes when I am adding(or subtracting) small increments the addition will not register and I am sure I have added enough. Still, I am very pleased with this scale and wish I would have bought it a long time ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't live without it!, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Salter Digital Scale, Glass with Silver accents (Kitchen)
This scale is a foodies dream. We owned the same one in England but lost it on the move home. So we bought another! It takes up little space and can be stood up on its side because it is square--for storage. The ease of transition between grams and lbs / oz is really 1 touch of a button. I like the ability to zero out with an empty bowl from your kitchen on it and then measure flour, etc usng the same bowl. The batteries last quite a while. If you're in the market for a kitchen scale...look no further.

It was past 30 days, so I couldn't return it to Amazon. But once I finally found the corporate site (www.salterhousewares.com), I was able to get in touch with them, they were incredibly nice and quick, and they are sending a replacement scale. Hopefully this one won't break.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Design, June 21, 2007

I gave five of these for Christmas gifts. One was returned because it was broken right out of the box. Another one the recepient wouldn't return but he's reglued the legs many times over. A third one is broken but again, the recipient feels embarrased to return it. I'M the one who's embarrased! The design needs reworking!

4.0 out of 5 stars Salter 1001 11-Pound Square Glass Kitchen Scale, July 29, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Salter Digital Scale, Glass with Silver accents (Kitchen)
The scale is a very nice appliance to display in any kitchen. It works every bit as good as the advertising says it will, easy to use and accurate. The only problem I have with it is, the weight is in 1/8 ounce increments, but an instrument to weigh in 1/100 ounce increments would cost five times more. All said, this is a fine piece of machinery.

My Salter 1001 scale started having problems within 3 months and broke within 10 months. I am sending the scale back to Saltier for replacement. A good scale while it worked, but what pain this has become.
