4.0 out of 5 stars Contruction Great, However Digital is Digital
This product is soundly made. The non-slip surface is large enough even for my size 10 feet and I still have room to spare. No fear of losing balance and falling off. The display is large and very easy to read.
But a Digital scale no matter what kind I've tried including this one is can fluctuate. I suggest weighing 3 times and taking the average.

2.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy Scale with Inaccurate and Unreliable Weighing
Pros:

1. Soft mat to stand on.

2. Nice colors with a low-profile design.

3. The black mat where your feet go is 9 1/2 inches, and from top to bottom in the center of where each foot would step is 12 inches, including plastic and mat.

Cons:

1. This is a flimsy scale made entirely of plastic. The scale...

2.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy Scale with Inaccurate and Unreliable Weighing, June 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Salter 9009ef Lithium Electronic Scale (400 lb. Capacity with Extra Large LCD Readout) (Health and Beauty)
Pros:

The scale itself weighs about 3 pounds. You must be sure to keep your feet towards the outer parts of the black mat, as the center bends very easily, and makes groaning noises. This happens with weights as little as 10 pounds.

2. The digital read-out is not as pictured. It is large; however, it is a normal LCD screen with a grey background and black numbers, not a black background with white numbers.

3. I, too, did the actual weights on the scale test. The scale was always off, reporting weights from 0.2 to 5 pounds off for the same actual weight, placed in the same position, over and over again.

4. If you need an accurate, reliable scale, this is not the one to buy, especially at this price. The lackluster performance, reliability, and design of this electronic scale makes it highly over-priced.

Commenter's Note: Unlike some of these 5 stars reviews, I am actually purchased this scale and own it. In addition, I am not paid or benefited for this review. Please note that of the 9 reviews: 6 are 5 stars reviews with only ONE having a REAL NAME badge. 3 are one and two star reviews, and all 3 of those have REAL NAME badges.

I am not happy with this scale, and wanted to share the reasons with anyone wishing to purchase it. I wish you happy shopping and hope that you do find the perfect scale for you!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality and not even close to accurate..., August 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Salter 9009ef Lithium Electronic Scale (400 lb. Capacity with Extra Large LCD Readout) (Health and Beauty)
I purchased the product and am quite disappointed.

As noted- it is very flimsy plastic and feels like it is bending in half when used.

It is impossible to get accurate readings from the scale- there is often a *5 POUND* variance between consecutive weigh-ins. You have to weigh yourself multiple times and average the results to even get a clue which number is accurate.

I have even tested it with known quantity cast iron weights and found it to be off.

I purchased it becasue of the Salter name brand. I will not make that mistake again. I have since replaced this unit with another brand of scale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad scale, May 13, 2007
This review is from: Salter 9009ef Lithium Electronic Scale (400 lb. Capacity with Extra Large LCD Readout) (Health and Beauty)
This is a very unreliable scale. It will give me three different readings in less than five minutes, and the difference will be over 5 pounds.

2.0 out of 5 stars very flimsy, April 5, 2007

I don't understand how this thing got positive reviews or why it costs more than $20. I've stood on all kinds of scales over the years and none have ever been as flimsy as this. It feels like cheap plastic that I'm going to flex in 1/2. Everything flexes very much when I stand on it, including the LCD panel. I'd be more understanding if I weighed anything near it's 400 lbs capacity but I'm only 1/2 of that. Looking forward to sending this back for a full refund. If I were to keep it I suspect it would be only a matter of time before it breaks in 1/2. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because even though it flexes way too much it does seem accurate.

1.0 out of 5 stars defective?, June 29, 2008
This review is from: Salter 9009ef Lithium Electronic Scale (400 lb. Capacity with Extra Large LCD Readout) (Health and Beauty)
The digital number at the far right is already partially disappearing in less than one month of home use. I tried to contact the company via their web site and it says their website is temporarily unavailable due to essential updates. I was initially impressed with the product but I am wondering how long the other numbers will show up. The instruction manual says that the scale has a lithium battery installed to provide extra long energy life for the scale and that under heavy usage such as a health club that the batteries may eventually need to be replaced. I gave this as a gift to my father on 6/7/08 and it already is showing a problem. (6/28/08)

I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH SCALE FOR THIS REASON. IT WAS NOT
STABLE WITH THE WEIGHT. I WOULD WEIGHT MYSELF AND GET A
WEIGHT. I GOT RIGHT BACK ON TO CHECK AND GOT A DIFFERENT
WEIGHT. I TRIED THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND GOT DIFFERENT WEIGHT.
CANNOT TRUST.

1.0 out of 5 stars Add this to the NO Star list, August 31, 2008

I should have read some of these comments before I ordered my Salter 9009 scale on 7/8/07. I paid the inflated price plus extra shipping costs to Hawaii; it malfunctioned soon after received and was returned to Salter on 10/12/07 with a letter explaining the problems, costing another bundle to ship it to New Mexico from Hawaii. A replacement was received some time later, but by 4/25/08 it was again malfunctioning (a leg stuck and I suddenly weighed 100 pounds less--nice!). Since there is no phone number to call for assistance or advice, I tried their internet site and left a request on their "response form" with my email address on 4/27/08. It's four months later--and still no reply. In logging onto their web site for the last week the site has been "down" for updating. Perhaps that's been since 6/08 when another responder had the same problem. My Salter scale is now sitting on a pile of obsolete electronics to be recycled. Perhaps it's time for the company to be up-dated or recycled. I, for one, will never consider purchasing a Salter product ever again!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not for us!, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Salter 9009ef Lithium Electronic Scale (400 lb. Capacity with Extra Large LCD Readout) (Health and Beauty)
This is a nice scale. The thing I like about it most is how it looks. I don't however, recommend this scale for persons over 300lbs (despite the 400lb capacity). I weigh under 300lbs, and it worked okay for me. However, when used by someone over 300, it creaked and cracked when stepped on, and did not give an accurate weight.

I am quite upset with this item. Readings were way off after a couple of months of use. I thought it was the battery. I replaced the battery and that did not help. I was so mad I trashed it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCALE AT ALL.
