Great Dietary Scale and Computer, September 7, 2006
The secret to staying at a normal weight is to stay within a 2000 calorie diet. I can put virtually any kind of food on this scale, punch in the name of the food, and it will tell me the calories, the protein, the carbohydrates, the sugars, the fat, and a bunch of other things.
It also weighs the food, and you can program it to read in liters or in kilograms or in ounces and pounds. It weighs solid food, dry food, and liquids.
Once in a great while, it will not have a certain food item (chocolate malted milk balls), but you can enter 100 additional items into the database for future reference.
I wish the screen was backlit, because it is not easy to read in a room that is dark or a room that has a lot of glare. (Of course, that would drain the 4 AA batteries a lot quicker).
I also wish that you didn't have to pay extra for the AC Adaptor (it is NOT included with the product). But the batteries last a good while, so this is not a big deal.
Also, when you are typing in the name of the food, the display is not quite as responsive as I might have expected it to be. Sometimes I type a couple of letters, and there is a small lag time before the second letter shows up. But again, this is no big deal.
I love this product. I used to be afraid to eat certain things while I was dieting because I had no idea how many calories I was consuming. With the Salter Nutri-Weight Dietary Computer, I no longer have this issue. If you are health conscious, you will want to have this item!

THANK YOU, Salter..., January 7, 2006
This scale is magnificent! A "must have" for diabetics and dieters. It's amazing to see the values of what I never thought to add into my totals, such as the cream in my coffee. Yes, light cream is one of the many pre-programmed foods, along with baby carrots, au gratin potatoes, baked beans with franks, and many other foods that wouldn't be found on an ordinary diet scale...but then, this is no ordinary scale. And what isn't pre-programmed can be added to the database, including my own recipes! If I choose, I can set targets for the day or week of carbs, calories, fat, fiber, sugar, protein, etc., and a press of a key lets me know what I have remaining to use. I can save everything I weigh in memory and review it later to know what I've consumed. Not only that, but if I forget to weigh something, I can add it later manually. It also gives the glycemic index of each food. And it will store this information for two different users. Besides all this, it's lightweight and portable, so I can take it back and forth to work or pack it easily for travel. It can be set for American or British foods by a simple switch located on the bottom of the unit. I find the keypad simple to use, the instructions uncomplicated, and the display very easy to read. I highly recommend this scale to everyone for a healthier lifestyle. I'm sorry I debated so long about buying it. It is well worth the money, and I don't believe there's anything like it on the market.

Powerful tool for the diet conscious, March 18, 2006
This is a well designed and useful product. With this scale it is very easy to monitor your daily and/or weekly caloric intake as well as the composition of your diet in terms of protein, carbs, and fats. It can also be used as a simple, accurate scale for recipes that list ingredients by weight.
A previous reviewer gave this product 1 star because it listed foods by their British name. Had they bothered to read PAGE 2! of the instruction manual, they would have found the large diagram and text explaining the UK/US switch on the bottom. When all else fails, read the manual! :-)
