If you are going to buy one Cirque CD, buy this one. This is a great mix of music that will have the power to make you think, and make you feel good. There are no throw-away tracks on this CD, they are all beautiful and wonderful. A very haunting score, with great vocals. Highly Reccomended.

Sunny, happy music,

This music just makes me happy. As usual, I think the arrangements from the live performance or the VHS are better, but this is such a cheerful CD! "Kumbalawe" is such fun, and each song, while different in mood, has the same strong spirit. Worth a listen also to hear Réné Bazinet's voice in the final song "Rideau" (not in the VHS version). He has the most glorious speaking voice. Listen and be happy...

I had never went to this show before until a friend bought me a ticket and said forcefully you'll love it! I was absolutely shocked and had a grin from ear to ear for 3 hours. I couldn't believe the voice on this woman is was so incredible I had to question if it was really her or some recording, and sure enough it was her,I had to buy this cd and I listen to it constantly and everytime I still enjoy it. it's very hypnotic,I know you'll love it..

The Definiteive Cirque CD,

This is the first Cirque CD I ever purchased. I now own all the others in the collection, save the extremely hard-to-find movie soundtrack of Alegria. Those who are new to the world of Cirque du Soleil's music should definitely start with this one, then find yourself completely addicted and buy the rest in any order they choose.

A Pleasing Array of Fine Music,

Saltimbanco is one of the first Cirque du Soleil CDs I ever owned. It is also one of my favorites! I use it for dance, aerobics, and just for plain relaxing. It's an excellent collection of 'jungle-like' sounding music! I love the birds in the background of Norweg and the drums and bottle music sounds are extremely unique. The only two songs on the CD I did not like were Amazonia and Saltimbanco itself! They were long, loud, and repetitious. However, an especial favorite next to Pokinoi, Norweg, and Kumbalawe is Rideau! It is incredibly out of place amidst the 'South American jungle' on the CD but the piano music and 'clown talk' always grabs my attention. If you are new to the 'Cirque du Soleil' craze and looking for a CD to start off your 'Cirque' collection-I would highly recommend Saltimbanco. It gives you a lasting taste of their many flavors of different kinds of music!

Purely beautiful, positive music,

Saltimbanco was a milestone in the history of Cirque du Soleil. It was the first big, international production that established the company as a leader in creative, circus-inspired entertainment. The music is a massive part of this milestone.
Saltimbanco was composed by Rene Dupere, who is also known for writing Cirque's Alegria and Mystere. In Saltimbanco, Dupere introduced the language known by fans as "Cirquish," which is an unrecognizable language many Cirque songs (even today) are sung in. According to popular fan rumors, the idea behind Cirquish was to create a "universal" language that could be understood (or possibly not understood) by any one who watched the show regardless of nationality. There's plenty of debate among fans as to what exactly "Cirquish" is, but the point remains that Dupere first introduced the concept in Saltimbanco. The music of Saltimbanco draws on urban inspirations and fuses a positive motif and a literal "urban jungle" feel into the music. This version of the soundtrack features all of the original music from the production, some of which feel incredibly outdated for the modern audience. Centerpiece songs on Salitmbanco include the relaxing, jungle-sounding "Kumbalawe," the epic, ballad-like "Amazonia," the operatic "Pokinoi," and the relaxing, positive "Horere Ukunde." The music of Saltimbanco is fueled by Francine Poitras' gorgeous soprano vocals, which shine through in the classical "Il Songo di Volare" and the vocal-driven "Kaze." When combined, the music of Saltimbanco is a beautifully woven picture of positive life in an urban world filled with a calming, jungle sound that's sure to relax any who listen to it.

Just Incredible...,

I watched this show when I was a young teen in 1992 and I had many issues in my life at this point in time, way to many to mention.
I was more or less dragged to this show by an older brother, who thought it would expand my horizon, I THOUGHT THIS WAS GONNA BE LIVING HELL!!! I was wrong... I was taken back by the sights the sounds and the beauty that this remarkable circus was bestowing upon me... it really did "CHANGE MY LIFE" in more ways that I can never thank this show enough for. The soundtrack holds little compared to seeing the show in person but what you lack in visual beauty is made up for by the vocals and instrumentals of these wonderful and talented performers. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am and will till the day I meet the grave, and it will always hold a special place for opening my eyes to true beauty.

I recently saw the Cirque Du Soleil show Saltibanco and thought the show was excellent! But I never dreamed how good the music in the show might be, and also how well it complimented the show! The musicians and vocalists stand out as well as the performers. As other reviewers have commented, the music is hypnotic, haunting, mesmerizing. A beautiful blend of vocals and instrumentals with an unusual sound. It's hard to describe until you hear it! Even better, to see and hear it at the same time. At least with the CD you can relive the incredible music. This CD was recorded in 1992 with I'm sure a completely different set of musicians and vocalists, and sounded no different than the recent show I saw in 2009.

You haven't seen circs until you get to know Cirque Du Soleil. Once you see their shows and let your mind walk through those acts with the beautiful music and awesome performance of their musicians, you'll understand the many people that have fallen already in this charm. Please try to see them at least once in life.
I went to Paris for a honeymoon with my wife. Cirque du Soleil made it even better than we thought if would be. |
