Best Lemonade Ever (after some testing)!,
By
This review is from: Salton LM8 Lemonader! Lemonade Maker (Kitchen)
Although the "machine" itself is a little more work than I thought (it does take time to "squeeze" the lemons, but it is soooo much easier than by hand) the fact that it makes a syrup from the sugar and hot water that then mixes with the lemon juice makes it a much more "old-fashioned" taste ... none of this powdered stuff (or just lemon juice with sugar). I adore a good glass of lemonade and this has got to be in the top 3! You do have to test the sugar and lemon amounts to your taste and 2 1/2 quarts isn't really much, but it is more than well worth it!!!!!!

There's Nothing as Refreshing as a Glass of Fresh Lemonade!,

I love kitchen gadgets and I love real lemonade, so when I discovered the Salton Lemonader I had to give it a try. It's similar to a coffee maker in that you add water to a reservoir, sugar to a holder in the top, and ice cubes (you need about 3 1/2 trays of ice cubes) and water to the pitcher. Then you plug it in and use the motorized reamer in the top to juice your lemons. The water heats and is forced through the sugar, and continues into the pitcher with the lemon juice. I like a mix of 6 large lemons and 1 cup of sugar. Couldn't be any easier. There is a steam vent in the top back, but I had no problems with steam coming out when I was juicing the lemons. If you are afraid of getting burned, just plug in the Lemonader, juice the lemons and THEN press the brew button. The whole appliance is nicely made. My only complaint is the lid which fits on top of the juicer doesn't seat correctly, but it does not affect the workings of the Lemonader. When you're done, you can put all of the detachable plastic parts in the diswasher for easy clean up. And you definately need to store your lemonade in a bigger pitcher. The pitcher with the Lemonader is, as other reviewers have noted, very hard to pour from and you're guaranteed to make a mess if you try. The instructions include recipes for drinks other than lemonade, such as limeade, punch, and lemon iced tea. I'm looking forward to experimenting with different juice combinations this summer.

Yummy!!,

Bought this the other day and I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised. The lemonade is delicious, but you will probably have to play around with the amount of lemons and sugar until you find the combination that tastes best to you. It does takes a few min. for it to "brew" the lemonade, but its not that that bad, and the after-product is well worth it. Be careful not to touch the top as it is brewing, it does let off very hot steam, (warnings are written on the top lid, so this shouldnt be a problem.) I didn't find it ultra-messy, everything went in my dishwasher afterward, and the leftover lemonade in its handy pitcher went into the fridge. I read the directions fully before using it, so I new exactly what to expect. All in all, I liked this product a lot, I didnt pay msrp. for it, I got a deal, and it was definately worth it!!

The dumbest and most poorly designed appliance on the planet,
By A Customer
This review is from: Salton LM8 Lemonader! Lemonade Maker (Kitchen)
Bought this for my lemonade-loving husband and decided to make a pitcher for his birthday with his new appliance. If you have about an hour, really love a mess and, no matter what, believe an electric appliance will out-do old fashioned elbow grease anytime...buy several of these. The concept is similar to a drip coffee machine. The unit heats then pumps the hot water into a reservoir containing the sugar you poured in there and hopefully didn't get anywhere else. Then you fill a clumsy pitcher with water and ice, insert it under the spigot and start the water heating. In the meantime, you ream 4-6 lemons (the only good thing about this machine is the electric juicer) but don't press down too hard or the gears grind, oh, and don't get your hand too close to the back of the appliance, as the steam from the boiling water is coming out a steam vent near the back of the juicer! Ouch! Then, the juice drips down into the pitcher, leaving pulp down inside the juice reservoir. Once you've juiced your lemons, there's a good chance the water is still pumping into the reservoir, so go read a good book. In another 20 minutes or so, the water pumping action will be done, and your pitcher will be filled to almost overflowing. Try pouring into a glass....but over the sink, since it's a drippy-spouted pitcher. Sorry honey, but we're using frozen concentrate from now on...I'm sending this disaster back to the store and might pick up an old-fashioned glass juicer!

Makes WONDERFUL Lemonade!,

When I first saw this I knew I had to have it. I love lemonade and espically homemade, but when you do it by hand it takes forever and doesn't taste nearly as good as when you use this machine. It gives you recipes to made Lemonade, Pink Lemonade, and many other kinds. I reccommend using a lime or two to make the lemonade less tart. It takes at most 20 minutes to make one batch (takes me 15 to get the materials, cut the lemons, and do everything else), which is nothing because the lemonade is great. The only thing that I don't like is how little it makes and the fact that you have to wait 15 minutes between making batches.

Hate Kitchen Gadgets.....But Love the Lemonader!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Salton LM8 Lemonader! Lemonade Maker (Kitchen)
I hate stupid kitchen gadgets but I love my Lemonader! Everyone who's sick and tired of lemonade from a can or a powder raise their hand and then get one of these machines. You may have to play around with the recipes a bit before getting it just right for your personal taste, but that's part of the fun. It assembles easily and cleans up easily too. I prefer to transfer the finished lemonade into a different pitcher for storage in the fridge. For the money, it's a great little kitchen machine and the salton consumer relations department has been stellar in helping me replace a part that I lost. They're friendly and easy to deal with...kind of like the machine itself. Feel like having a bit of summer year 'round? Nothing like a fresh glass of lemonade to do that!

Works Great!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Salton LM8 Lemonader! Lemonade Maker (Kitchen)
The other reviewers are right about the pitcher being poorly designed (drips/leaks when pouring) and the instructional booklet is weak at best. And yes, if you are not careful you can get burned by the steam escaping from the rear vent. The warning near the vent area is not large enough, it is much too easy to miss. Once you are familiar with your machine however, the steam vent is not a problem. The first time I used it - I didn't connect the male & female water/steam tube correctly. There was hot water popping out and the sugar did not dissolve. The second time I took a hard look at the machine itself, used the instructional booklet as a rough guide and voila, all connections were correctly made and it worked great! Now, I can have fresh cold homemade lemonade in about 10 minutes, with vey little mess and an easy clean up! You can't beat that, I love this machine!!!

Goodbye chemicals!,

For those of you who are tired of drinking artificial, powdered, chemical-laden lemonade mix - here is the Lemonader! Now that I tasted REAL homemade lemonade - the awfull stuff you get at fast food and most other restaurants will turn your stomach. The advantages of this Lemonader: - 1) Make it as tart as you want it. 2)Make a mixture of lemons and limes that goes down smoother 3)You have the advantage of using your own (healthier)sweetener 4)You are not limited to what a manufacturer adds 4)You have the health advantage of REAL lemons and limes! Disadvantages are: 1)The directions are somewhat ambiguous - It took 2 tries to "get it" 2)the spout dribbles - I transfer the lemonade to a pitcher I can shake 3)It takes a little effort to make a pitcher of lemonade. 4) When the directions tell you how much water goes into the reservoir - listen to them, they mean it! In conclusion - I love this Lemonader. My family and I agree it makes the best lemonade! Just remember to juice the lemons and limes BEFORE you push the button to "brew".

Not bad... Really!,
By "otj287" (New Haven, CT United States) - See all my reviews

I've read other reviews and thought that I'd give it a shot. I was quite impressed, overall. I didn't get burned with hot steam like others claimed, but I was extra careful. My unit fit together nicely and worked perfectly out of the box. I followed the recipes, and it seemed to work well. The one thing I will say (and it's a biggie) is that the pitcher is designed VERY poorly. The pouring spout wasn't made large enough, so A LOT of the finished lemonade will spill out when pouring. I've tried pouring the contents from the included pitcher into a larger pitcher (with a better spout) and it's worked nicely. I still will get some spillage, but it's better than using the included pitcher and a tall glass. Overall, the unit does what it claims to and the taste is pretty good! |
