It Lived A Long And Happy Life,
By "hyinkmom" (Virginia Beach, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Salton RA3A 3-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I received this rice cooker three years ago as a gift from my mother and it has served me well over the years. It has recently given out, hence my reason for reviewing new ones online, but for the price it did well. I used this rice cooker on the average of two nights a week without any issues at all. I feel strongly that if you are looking for starter appliances for your home, then this would be a good way to go. I now know just how much I appreciate this appliance and I am willing to spend the money on a top of the line model, but like I said, if you are just starting out then this is the one for you.

dead beat - defective appliance,

This review is from: Salton RA3A 3-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I bought one last year, and it died during the first time itself. I thought it was a bad piece, and returned it to the store, and got a replacement. Worked two times and third time it died. I was baffled, so I returned it to the store. But a few months ago, it went on a very tempting sale, so I thought I should give it another try. Worked for 4 times and then died. Something terribly wrong with this brand/model. We had several rice cookers of different brands over the years which gave us years of trouble free service, but this one is sure different. Don't be tempted by its cheap price. I don't believe in 'you get what you pay for' saying. Look at the Toyotas and Hondas, they are inexpensive but they are reliable, and you pay many more thousands of dollars for some of the Mercedes Benz or Jaguar models, and what you get is endless trouble. That is why it pays to do some research. Amazon gives us this great forum to state our experiences and we should all be thankful to them.

My favorite appliance in my apartment,
By
This review is from: Salton RA3A 3-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I received this little gem of a rice cooker for Christmas a couple of years ago. I have not been able to stop using it. I love the thing to pieces as much as I love eating white rice. I think it is the most wonderful gift I had ever received for Xmas. It is definitely the most used appliance in my apartment. As a big rice eater, this little rice cooker is a godsend. It is so efficient because I can throw in the rice, water and salt, flip the switch, and walk away for 15-20 minutes. I don't have to worry about boil-overs or the rice burning at the bottom of the pan. Although I can use this to steam vegetables, I strictly use my rice cooker to cook rice. It is pretty simple to use. After 2-3 years of heavy usage, my little rice cooker is still functioning like it did the first time I used it. The rice cookers the negative reviewers got were probably defects because my rice cooker is still working and has yet to blow a gasket. The Salton 3 cup rice cooker is ideal for apartment dwellers like myself who lives alone. Contrary to what a few people might have to say about it, I love this rice cooker.

Mine lasted a little longer...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Salton RA3A 3-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
Well, I had a little more luck than the other people who wrote reviews--my cooker lasted an entire month (with about 2-3 uses per week) before it mysteriously died. My roommates and I never had a complaint about the quality of the cooking though. If it hadn't quit working for no reason, I'd be quite pleased with it. However, as it stands, I wouldn't recommend this product.

Could be better....,

As was indicated in several other reviews this rice cooker does leave "burned" rice on the bottom - though the manual does say to expect this. My biggest issue is the "boil over" problem. I've looked into every solution in the troubleshooting part of the manual but I still end up with a counter full of water. I'm experimenting with less water/more rice, etc. but I just wanted an easy way to cook rice. Rice comes out good but I'd never buy this model again.

Awful product even when functioning,
By
This review is from: Salton RA3A 3-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
My cooker has never had any electrical problems, but it may as well since I'll never use it again. The directions were inaccurate, it spewed liquid rice out the top in every direction, and it badly burned the rice anywhere it touched the bottom or sides of the pot. Worse, the pot became badly scratched after I repeatedly had to chisel burnt rice-crust off of it, and after awhile the rice began to have a metallic aftertaste. I would not buy this product again at any price.

Cheap and messy,

I owned this rice cooker for less than a year before it stopped working. Even when it was in working order, the rice stuck to the bottom & burned, and fluid overflowed through the top causing quite a mess each time. Definitely not worth the price even though its one of the cheaper models available.

A Couple of Questions to Ask Yourself,

I just got my Salton because a Crofton 3-cup cooker that I had gave out slightly after the 1-year warranty was over. I liked my Crofton (I mainly make my stone cut oatmeal cereal in it each morning) and figured all little rice cookers would be similar so I bought in a hurry without reading all the specs. 2 questions I wish I had asked first: Does it have a nonstick surface, and Does it automatically switch to Warming Mode when it is done cooking? The Crofton did both, the Salton neither. Actually the Salton only cooked one batch and then quit working but the company was very nice and is sending me a UPS label and will cover the shipping costs both ways which is quite impressive.

My rice cooker has been going strong since I got it one year ago, after my Father used it the year before that. The rice comes out great each and every time. My family eats rice, rice pudding or steamed veggies on avg. 8 times a month so my cooker gets a good workout. This nice little cooker does it's job great and I don't have any complaints!
