This is my first yogurt maker, but as a long time lover of store bought yogurt and somewhat dubious as to the advantage of making my own, it more than exceeded my expectations. I used organic plain yogurt for starter and organic milk. The resulting yogurt was creamy without the sharp tang of store bought plain yogurts. It was simple to use and, most certainly, did not cut off. In fact, I'm online trying to see if I can buy additional glass jars for it!

Easy to use and made great home-made yogurt. Would highly recommend. Like that the cups for the yogurt are heavy glass.

Following the simple recipe and procedure outlined in the booklet that came with the yogurt maker resulted in delicious yogurt. I used Dannon plain fat free yogurt as a starter along with fat free milk and a half cup of powdered milk as suggested. I allowed it to process for eight hours and the finished product was very near in taste to the Dannon.
The jars are sturdy glass with heavy plastic snap on lids. Nice quality and easy to clean.

Top Honors,

I have been using this product for over a month now and I love it!. The yogurt comes out very creamy. It beats commercially made yogurts by a mile. The homemade yogurt does not have or taste rubbery. The directions are very easy to follow.
I have been very satisfied with this product.

Poor quality - Not worth the money,
This review is from: Salton YM7 42-Ounce Electric Yogurt Maker with 7 Glass Jars (Kitchen)
I was excited to start making my own yogurt again, as I use to do about 20 years ago. When I got this machine I thought it would do the job, I was wrong!! First of all the machine stoped running after about 4 hours, and the heat from the bottom unit would not spread out to all the jars. I followed all the directions and my yogurt came out watery. Too bad there were no ratings on this item when I bought it. I will have to look for a new yogurt maker & throw this one out the door.

This product did a good job making yogurt. However, after I made my first batch, one of the cups shattered in my hands as I was opening it. As another reviewer said, I'm a small person, and I manage to use glass items all the time w/o breaking them, so I don't think it's me. I have returned this item and ordered a different yogurt maker. I would not recommend this item because the cups break so easily.

The yogurt is kept at a constant temperature until it is creamy and delicious . The seven individual cups makes it easy to keep each family member happy with just the right amount per serving. I wish the unit came with two extra cups so that I could make a new batch of yogurt before the previous batch was used up.

I had fast delivery of the yogurt maker and it arrived intact. It is easy to use and makes very good yogurt. The self timer is really just a reminder for you that yogurt is finished at set time. There is no alarm so you still need to remember it. Also One of the glass containers broke for no apparent reason after the first use and I now need to use a half-pint jelly jar as the 7th jar. It actually works fine with saran wrap over the top. I've been using Dannon plain yogurt as a starter and it works OK but sometimes has slight lumps as you are not supposed to whisk your mixture. I have ordered some yogurt starter from the health food store and am eager to try as a comparison. Overall I like the Salton but can't quite give it 5 stars...

I have made 2 batches of yogurt with this machine using Yogurmet starter, which I bought at a local healthfood store, and whole organic milk. I followed the instructions on the yogurt starter and had no problems. The yogurt comes out very creamy and reminds me of Dannon with the fruit on the bottom, except I took fresh blueberries and strawberries cooked down with a little honey and placed the fruit with syrup on top. My only disappointment was that I paid $17 for expedited shipping and it took 4 days to receive it. I recieved a few other items that I ordered the same night by regular delivery 2 days earlier, but I am very happy with the machine.

I've had this yogurt maker for a year now and think it's a great product. I usually make 1-2 batches a week, using yogurt as a starter, and always get great yogurt. My kids devour yogurt, so I figured making my own would save some money - and it does! Sometimes I use greek yogurt, other times Stonyfield. It always comes out delicious, even when I forget I'm making it and leave it on for too long.
Very durable. None of the glass cups have broken, though the sides of some lids have split. They still fit tight, just look used. I really like that this machine uses glass cups, instead of other brands that use hard plastic. With all the hoopla around BPA lately, I feel safer using glass. I liked it so much, I bought two more for my sisters as gifts. |
