This is an excellent intorductory book on saltwater fly tying. It does not provide the great numbers of patterns an experienced tier might be looking for. Instead it goes into detail on the steps the processes for about 10 patterns of flies. It will walk a beginner step by step through fly construction. The techniques used for these patterns will prepare the novice for other types.

This is a book for beginning fly tiers and having never tied a fly of any kind before this is one time where I feel VERY qualified to provide a review. I am going bonefishing and needed to tie some "Crazy Charlie" flies. I purchased 4 other books on tying flies for salt water, but this was the only one that provided detailed, step by step instructions for a BEGINNER. The others have material lists and pictures but no detailed instruction. I have only one wish, and that is that Mr. Wentink would up date a new printing with new materials and flies that have developed since 1991.

If you are just starting out with this wonderful hobby this is the book for you. It gives the reader detailed steps in how to tie saltwater flies and answers virtually any question a beginner might have. Once you have this book, all you will need is practice, practice, practice.
